NOW TV box issue
I bought one of the new boxes over the weekend that incorporates Freeview, and for some reason there is a delay before it initialises. When I power it up each morning I use the remote to wake it up, then turn the TV on so it should be there, but a no signal message displays for about two minutes before it bursts into life.
However, when I use it on and off throughout the day it seems to start straight away. |

When you say "power up" does that mean from switched off at the mains so completely off or from standby?
It is quite likely that when you power it up from totally dead (ie switched off at the mains) it takes a while to sort itself out. But if you then switch it in and out of standby it doesn't have to do all the same stuff over again so gets going a lot quicker. |

It could be going to sleep, ie a deep standby mode that turns pretty much everything bar the remote sensor off. Can't seem to find much technical information about the box to confirm this though.
Not sure though that there is much you can do about it. Sometimes odd things can happen with HDMI depending on the order you turn stuff on. So try turning the telly on before the Now box and see what happens. But you might just have to live with it as it could simply be that's how it works and there is nothing that can be done about it. |

I have one of these boxes too. It does indeed take a few seconds to get going when you turn the TV on. But I think this is down to the box having an in built Freeview tuner and as per normal with freeview receivers, there is always a slight delay.

My problem is that a) the fans are too loud and for no discernable reason (in the bedroom, there's air conditioning so the recent hot weather and humidity isn't a factor) and b) the Freeview receiver seems to be terrible, like old cheap Freeview boxes ten years ago, where I get loads of signal break up and 'no signal' errors a lot.
One of the two boxes can't even find all of the channels no matter how many times I do a scan, but the aerial lead plugged directly in to the cheap and nasty TV (it's in a kitchen) has no such issues. |

Just a quick update on this issue as it was persistent until today. Apparently, it turned out to be a heat issue. I moved the box out into the open more which, fingers crossed, appears to have cured it.
A heads up to anyone having this issue though - if the fan really spins up so it's audible over the TV, shift it to somewhere that has more space around it. You should hardly hear the fan, I bearly know it exists now. |
