Xcom 2
Slipped under the radar a lttle this one, but the sequel to the highly acclaimed XCOM Enemy Unknown released on last gen, is coming to PS4 on Sept 30. Ported from PC to the 4 and X1, XCOM 2 features more addictive turn based strategic combat, research, development and micro management - but with the very welcome addition of procedurally generated maps. Still occasionally visit the genius 94 original and Enemy Within on PS3, so day one here.
Useful pre-order price right now too. |

Happy New Year all. Despite this being my joint favourite game franchise along with Command & Conquer, some very hefty loads and technical issues on PS4 at launch postponed purchase. However at 15 quid brand new in Game yesterday I couldn't resist. Had a brief look and first impressions are positive, load times have been improved post patch, very nice visually with fluid frames. I'll post more considered thoughts after the NY hangover abates - so give me a week or so!

Yep. Well worth the 'risk'. Detailed, defined, smooth visuals. A suitably evocative, brooding John Carpenter-esque OST lends appropriate mood. Accomplished ambient sound and that strategic turn based combat is typically tough and compelling. Base, resource management, research and development is firmly entrenched, providing richly diverse and satisfying gameplay. Loading generally could be tighter, but much improved from launch. Summary - If you're a PS4 strategist who enjoys a challenge, this one's highly recommended. £24.99 on the store till 20 Jan.
Here's a short video edit I've just posted on my channel showcasing XCOM 2's turn based combat - As mentioned it runs rather well on standard PS4. |

Thanks for the review. I have the first game and have been thinking about picking up the 2nd. Just need to decide if I stick to having it on the PC like the first or grab it on the PS4
