As predicted, Red Dwarf has ended Go 8-Bit's reign at the top quite comprehensively, attracting almost double the viewership.
Still, 645k for the first showing is a solid second place, hitting more or less the same sort of numbers as last week, and beating the position below (A repeat of MTW, now Suits is done) by more or less the same margin too. 55k watched the same showing on +1 (third most watched on +1 that week) giving that timeslot a total of 699k, because rounding up, making it the second most watched timeslot on both Daves overall. 18th position in Multichannel (Red Dwarf just edging first), equivalent of 23rd on C5 and 30th on C4. |

Just watching now, theyre playing Pac-Man
Considering how shite the Atari 2600 port of Pac-Man supposedly was, doesn't 10m games/consoles sold count as good sales? |

Even some ZX Spectrum versions of arcade games were poor in comparison to the arcade original. Donkey Kong and Frogger for example. I thought it was great when home computers and consoles were powerful enough to do an exact copy of older arcade games. And of course MAME came along and gave us pixel perfect copies. |

Wow, that was a slightly weird episode, or was it just me. It kind of felt like everyone had just got a bit sick of the whole format?
Dara spent most of the time slagging off the retro games, and then says something odd like "it's been quite a retro-themed week" (on a show called "Go 8-Bit"? Really?). Dave Gorman says "I'm not really a gamer" and "I've just made up a reason why this is my favourite game". One of the "experts" started the show by saying that he wasn't a gamer either - hang on, haven't you been one of the resident gaming experts for 5 weeks now? What's going on? Said expert then starts bizarre argument about "Pong with a string in it" (what the ****?). That was awkward. Said a lot that the most entertaining person was probably Josie Long, for god's sake. Again, too little time actually spent on the games and what time it was was watching people mainly being incredibly shite at them and bumping into corners hopelessly, except you didn't even get to see as much as that as the camera randomly jumps about to make following what's going on as difficult as possible. I really want this to work, but it's a nice idea, awfully executed. |

They denied Josie's original choice of game because it was too obscure? Surely that's more of a reason to have it on the show.

I really want this to work, but it's a nice idea, awfully executed. As for Dara, I actually totally got where he was coming from. This episode had very little variety given 3 of the 5 games were all HUGE retro games (Pong, Pac-Man, Frogger), plus I do see his point that Pac-Man and Frogger both offer very little in the way of compelling gameplay once you've played them more than a few times. With Sam Pamphalon, the guy who made the remark about "Pong with a string in it", every single week he's introduced as the "gaming muggle", as in, he's the guy who knows NOTHING about games. They thought it'd be a more interesting dynamic if they pit a team captain who knew a lot about games against a team captain who knew nothing about games. That said, I'm with you on Dave Gorman, having seen him on both this and Taskmaster this week, I've come to realise I don't much care for him outside of his own show. He gave off a huge "I can't really be arsed with this" vibe. Also agree on the editing, one point in particular was odd, where they were playing Gang Beasts, the very first round, and they're all fighting, and then Dara says "Okay Dave has just died", but instead of showing the game footage, they cut from the battle, to Dave's face, back to the battle and suddenly Dave's character wasn't there ![]()

Secondly, I've literally only just realised that Sam Pamphalon is not a gaming expert. As you say, every week they introduce him with little more than "the gaming muggle" - not being a Harry Potter fan, I never actually understood the reference properly, it sounded like a vaguely Harry Potter word so I assumed it meant he was a gaming wizard ![]() My bad!

I'm assuming this was actually the first recorded show, the way Dara mentioned how they blew all the budget on the rotating stage and the way the team captains were introduced makes me think this was the first recorded, but shows can occasionally air in an order different to what they were recorded in.
(Josie also mentioned a few times that the show was 'pre-watershed', a decision that may have been changed after two or three episodes were produced and/or after Dara said Frogger was 'shite') The banter between the cast felt less slick and more human, though- although that might be owing to 50% of the cast not being professional panel game panellists. That being said, the CBA aspect felt like the friendly poking at the absurdity of the situation he's found himself in (the artificiality of the 'favourite game' bit of the show) that he's made his name on rather than petulance. Quote:

![]() ![]() Hopefully the success of the show will spur Dave into giving them a few extra quid for series two to fix this. |

I'm quite liking this show. The trick stage may be a bit tacky, but at least it has a functional purpose so they can face the screen to play.
As someone old enough to remember all the retro games, I enjoy that. But for the younger generation who missed that era, will it really draw them in? Or will they think jesus, what's this blocky tat I'm watching them play, where's COD! |

I really wanted to like this, but I think it is awful. The games they have are normally boring to watch or made boring by the z listers playing them as they are so bad. It would be better with more of the games and less of the contestants.

Ratings time!
A slight drop to 586k for the first showing, but still the second most watched show, 621 when you include +1, making it only 23rd in multichannel. |

Despite it being all over, the ratings are still two weeks behind, so here we go:
Taskmaster launched in this week with 731k, relegating Go 8-Bit to third, managing 540. This is a series low, but the show in fourth only got 307k so I can't imagine there's too many worried faces at Dave, save for Ste's avatar. Incidentally, it picked up 32k on +1, while Taskmaster only managed 15. 29th in Multichannel for the week. |

Last one, I think, and it's not brilliant reading.
First showing of the final episode is the first to drop below half a million with 405k. That's still comfortably above all the repeats, but the premiere of Zapped pushes it down to fourth. A good showing on +1 (50k and 6th position) can't save it, still in fourth with 465k overall. Nowhere to be seen in the Multichannel Top 30. |
