Who likes Beef Jerky/Biltong?

I've been trying these recently and really quite like them - got to better for you then sweets and crisps right?

There seem to be lots of different brands though, I prefer biltong as it seems to be cut thicker.
I've only tried a Biltong brand called "Cruga" (which is the most popular apparently) and Jack Links beef jerky (OK but pretty salty)

Yes and Mariana beef jerky is the best but expensive.

My friend makes his own biltong. It's superb.

A nice Biltong is lovely. Freshly cut for you is the best. If punjabis a SA grocery shop near you it's well worth it.

Another of these home made otherwise its craps post. Seriously most people don't want to spend months waiting for something to snack on.

Shop bought is ok, the packets are not so great but you can buy online. I iuse Susmans which specializes in South African products. The biltong is made in uk though as meat cant be imported but it is good, Best to buy as stick and cut yourself.

I think Biltong is more of an acquired taste than jerky, at the moment I buy the softer jerky, not so authentic but I really like it, not sure who makes it but its in Sainsbury's

Proper and best Biltong of course is homemade in the warm climate of South Africa

I've always wondered why the packets have little squares in them that look like those salt sachets you used to get in crisp packets

I prefer the softer jerky/biltong too I think, "Chuga" (Biltong) is nice, Jack Links is OK but has a funny sweet aftertaste to it, I didnt like the "Wild West" jerky brand, too thick and artificial tasting.

I've tried a few packets of jerky from the supermarket and thought it was a bit crap to be honest. However, I've a friend who has a dehydrator and he has started making it and it's fantastic.

Aren't they those silicone moisture absorbing packets? Some I got from a SA shop had them in it.

Yes it has to remain dry or it will attract mold

That's cheap considering most shops are about £1.99 for 25g.
