Today Apple will launch the the iPhone 7, maybe a new Watch and possibly a new iPad at 6pm. You can watch the stream live if you have the following products:

Safari on iOS 7.0 or later
Safari 6.0.5 or later on OS X v10.8.5
Microsoft Edge on Windows 10
Apple TV (2nd or 3rd generation) with software 6.2 or later, or a 4th generation Apple TV. You should be able to find the event listed in the Apple Events app

http://www.apple.com/apple-events/september-2016/

While there have been rumours and leaks for the past 9 months or more we will soon find out what is or isn't true. I think more stuff has leaked this year than ever before. There are even today rumours about the 10th Anniversary iPhone for 2017 so perhaps Apple will hold some stuff back for next year?

This is how the comments will go in this thread:

Apple have really lost the plot now, they haven't innovated for years. They're just copying Android which had that feature ages ages. It's not worth getting for the slight camera bump. I'll stick with my Android phone. No doubt the Apple sheep will lap it up.

Apple has lost their edge. They're not doing anything innovative, which explains why the buzz behind this iPhone is so pathetic.

I might stick with my 6 until next year depending on what the 7 is/has/does.
If on the other hand this is the year they finally unveil iTimemachine then I will be able to go back in time and tell Bill Gates that his quote "We will never make a 32 bit operating system", was possibly a bit silly and maybe he should keep his mouth shut!

The problem is we are getting to a point where it's harder to make the next phone stand out. No new groundbreaking features to add. They can only be so thin.
I think more sensors will be added but the real next big thing (and I mean really big) is a few generations away yet.
Bio sensors!

I think they will finally launch the iHavenoidea which is a device you will plug into your central nervous system and will cause you to automatically perform a gallic shrug combined with Siri saying 'I'm sorry, I can't help you right now, please try again later' which will appear to come from your face whenever anyone asks you anything.

I can also confirm that the iWank won't be launched this year as it is still being rigorously tested by Apple's top engineers. Over and over again. Quality control is important.

When was the last time a phone was innovative? Honestly.

Nothing at all? I think when people talk about 'innovation' they are often talking about 'invention' rather than innovation. For example, they may not have invented the camera, but some of the stuff they have done with the iPhone's camera could reasonably be described as innovative. Just because something isn't immediately obvious from looking at a device, doesn't mean there is no innovation in the device.

Apple joining the dual camera game may get a few people excited, depending on how it's done. My advice is to wait until ordinary people get devices, not go by the tech press who were flown out there and won't say anything negative at all (or that will be the last one they attend!).

Beyond that, what can Apple (or anyone else?) do. You can improve Wi-Fi and LTE speeds and maybe improve on the battery, but what else? HDR screens? Making a phone even thinner? Shaving off a few grams in weight?

I guess if an iPhone Pro came with Apple's Pencil that could be a major(ish) step, although I expect the backlash would be huge.

A lot of what's going to be announced today is going to be percentage increases in performance, funnability, incredibleness etc.

Apple plays catchup now. Taking features from other phones is pretty much what they do, they don't reinvent anything.

How's their so-called "Live Photos" working out for them?

So what actually are the ten most meaningful, practical, regularly used features of other phones which are missing on the current iPhone?

What did Samsung innovate with from the S6 to the S7? Nothing.

Most tech these days is just incremental updates, I'm fine with that.

I've said this a few times on here before. All I want is to be able to choose where I save a bloody photo!!! I think it is absolutely ridiculous that despite all the improvements in camera features and speed etc, that they haven't even bothered to sort out the fact that every picture just goes to the camera roll. I have 13,000 pictures on my iPhone...it's incredibly frustrating having to spend ages scrolling through thousands of pictures when I want to find a certain one. I have an iPhone 5 and have had it since it was first released. I have not upgraded to the 5S, 6 or 6S as I don't think the features on either of them are enough to warrant me upgrading. The only feature I would like that I don't have on the 5 is the finger print function. I'm fine with the camera and the speed and the size of the 5. However, after dropping my iPhone 5 a number of times over the years etc, it's on the verge of death and look like it's about to drop dead, so the time has finally come for me to upgrade/get a new phone. I've previously had the first iPhone, the iPhone 3G and iPhone 4 prior to my current iPhone 5. If the iPhone 7 doesn't have substantial features that appeal to me then it's bye bye iPhone for me and I'm going elsewhere to other makes/models of phone. Judging by what I've read so far regarding the predicted iPhone 7 features, I'm not impressed. There's other phones out there that I think appeal to me more. Apple are starting to come across extremely desperate to me.

Android doesn't let you choose where your photos end up either!

No, but it does analyse each one and create albums automatically (although you need to save/approve them) so even though clicking on photos shows everything in chronological order, there are numerous ways to filter and search.

iOS 10 does have better searching at least, as in you can search for the word 'dog' and it will find all the pictures of dogs in your photo roll.

Yes, you have said it before.

I imagine that the difference between an iPhone 5 and 7 would be huge, even if the incremental differences between each model are small.
