What do you think of Hollyoaks currently?

The show has been subjected to a fair amount of criticism in recent times. Those who still watch and or may have just picked up again. What do you think of it currently? Got any better or a shadow of its former self?

A shadow of its former self.

It's still my fav soap and I think recently it's been really good.

I am really enjoying it. I don't really overanalyse it in great detail like some people. If I am entertained then that's all that matters.

It's definitely been better recently but there are still very few characters I care about. And Maxine continues to work my last nerve.

I hated her at first but for me Nico is the most weird and interesting young character in soaps. I also thought the actress was terrible at first but now i think she's playing her part so well. Wierd, twitchy, creepy and with some nice black comedy.

It's brilliant at the moment in my opinion. I'm loving this week in particular

Nico is weird, creepy and psycho so I love her.

Hollyoaks has been great, its the best soap right now, they have a good mix of social issues, exciting stories and even over the top stuff. They have couples you want to root for like Jade\Alfie and Mercedes\Joe and they've made unlikable character liike Sienna and Grace more human.

It has just got better and better as the year has gone on. Don't know if its the changes in producers or what.

This week isn't what I thought it was gonna be but it has been very good and its good to see Hollyoaks still pushing boundaries and trying new things

I like this week, but I hope they don't keep the split screen effects they have been using, but I am worried that next week after the arrest they will ignore the aftermath (like they do with EVERY storyline) and switch the focus to different characters.

And those who have committed crimes other than murder (eg Darren, Nancy, Maxine) will get off scot-free.

This week of episodes have been the best week of episodes I have seen in any soap for a long time. Other than that I think it's improved a little but has a long long way to go.

Yes!

Maxine has admitted her role, the police know she didn't do it alone, Darren has a very dodgy story and Nancy's brooch was found in the woods. Enough to charge them all, but I would not be surprised if there were no charges apart from either the rightful arrest of Nico or the wrongful arrest of Sienna or Maxine.

Its ok apart from one thing.. Duncan James is in danger of pulling the shows quality down by 200% he is the shittiest actor to ever grace soap which is truly something in itself.

I wouldn't go that far, but he is really bad.

And now Joel has returned, not only several inches shorter and with a different face, but he's no longer a Glaswegian - suddenly he's a Fifer.

Omg this! I found him awful. I know the actors who play Jessie, Liam, Diego and Scott are nothing special but at least we can take solace that they are secondary characters. Ryan is meant to be a main player.

As for HO, I do think the show is on the up. Yeah there are holes and it's less than perfect but I think finally the show is going in the right direction. There seems to be a good mix of characters and there are some you actually care about. I adore Alfie and jade. They are really really sweet and a breath of fresh air compared to the brats that usually dominate. In fact, id say on a whole the show is getting it right with thier couples/partnerships. Mercedes/Joe, Nancy/Darren, James/John Paul, Cleo/Nathan just work.

I do feel the Nightingales have given the show a much needed lift. I find James particularly interesting.

They just need to tie to up Nico and Cameron's arc asap and I hope they've realised thier error with the ott killer plots. Last year was over kill. Now there is a bigger focus on characters and families.
