You mean her writers, producers and her husband has. Beyonce has as much input into her music as Britney does, almost none. A puppet on a string.
Completely stupid and false statement.

Not sure about that, Beyonces team is huge. I do love her though, she is one of the greatest performers of recent times. But when listening to her music I don't feel any of it coming from her, it just doesn't feel like her creation not the same when I listen to Gaga (yes I know gaga has a team too) but Gaga is a creator.

Perfect Illusion is below average.

The intro is excellent and the verses are pretty good. Then it gets to the chorus which is supposed to sell the song but it's just repetitive nonsense and sounds far too loud and clunky. The key change wasn't required either. They could've kept the song in the same key until the end and it might've helped me get into the song more. For a 3 minute song, it sounds far too rushed as if they've tried to condense a big epic 5 minute pop masterpiece into 3 minutes and ultimately failed to deliver (apart from intro and verses). Chorus is weak af.

On another note, I think Lady Gaga has basically used this song to showcase her powerful vocals and nothing else. The problem is, it's not a very good song to do so. This sounds like track 8 on the album fodder, not lead single material.

UK chart entry at #28 and out of the chart the following week never to be seen again.
File next to: Katy Perry - Rise

RE Beyonce. Her team is huge. Sia even said so herself.

Sia said (or, as this is DS "claimed") that she was flown over to LA (I believe it was LA) and is put in a room (there's like 20 rooms) and other songwriters basically fill these rooms.
Beyonce's team then take the songs from the songwriters they like, present them to Beyonce, Beyonce agrees or declines, then proceeds to meet with the songwriters.

This probably isn't a Beyonce-only thing, as that is how the industry is. It's shallow, it's a fact, but it's pretty sad that Queen B hasn't written her own hit yet.

I prefer most of the stuff on Artpop to this new song, infact i love Artpop the album as a whole and am not really fussed over this obsession with sales. I just love her music.
Im not saying i do not like the new song, however to me it does sound a little like a reject from Born This Way.
Hopefully it will grow on me abit more, i am just surprised the record company put this through as the lead single to the album.

There are plenty of receipts from writers, producers and all kinds of other people who have talked about Beyonces creative input to her career. Here is one I literally just saw on Twitter before checking this thread again: https://twitter.com/formationwt/status/774446864821170176

There are similar anecdotes from industry people all over the place, as well as behind the scenes videos. You don't gain the enormous amount of respect she has from the majority of her industry peers by being a "puppet on a string".

Anyway I don't want to derail the thread anymore, but it's annoying how whenever literally anyone releases something they are compared to Beyonce and Beyonce has to be dragged down.

Edit: no idea how to get that link to work on my phone, oh well. The tweet regards her creative control during her current tour.

As for Perfect Illusion, I didn't like it on first listen and unfortunately it still hasn't grown on me after many attempts.

In regards to Beyonce. It doesn't matter if she writes her songs or not. The fact is she is still the one innovating the current music scene. Her past two albums have been released in a way which Lady Gaga could have only dreamed of doing. Gaga made huge statements about ARTPOP which all turned out to be a load of nonsense. Gaga cannot afford to do this mistake again.

On another note, I think Lady Gaga has basically used this song to showcase her powerful vocals and nothing else. The problem is, it's not a very good song to do so. This sounds like track 8 on the album fodder, not lead single material.
I don't even think her vocals sound that good on this. She sounds strained and like she is trying too hard. Having a rocky voice isn't something you can pretend to have. You either have it or you don't and I don't think Gaga has it. She has a jazz voice for sure but not a rock voice and if she continues to strain her voice to make it sound like she can sing rock well then in a few years she will end up sounding as bad as Bonnie Taylor now does.

I heard Gaga smokes 40 a day too which has shocked me. I thought she took care of her voice..

All this said I do like the rock Gaga thing and I am looking forward to the album.

I also found it difficult to like Applause, it grow on me though but not by much. I only liked a handful of songs on Artpop. LG revealed on Radio1 this morning that LG5 has a name, and that it is coming out this year! Can't wait!
I liked Applause when it first came out but I soon got fed up with it. I didn't like Artpop either apart from a couple of songs. It's her weakest album IMO. What's the name of the new album?

It's beyond average I do wished she might pull it out of the bag but nope. Its incredibly repetitive, derivative and whilst catch just totally lacks the wow factor. I'll wait to hear more from the album I'm not putting out much hope though.

People praise her powerful vocals, but I have never liked that type of singing. It just sounds like shrieking and screaming to me.
In some of her earlier songs, she sang in a more smooth, toned down voice which I found more appealing.
I guess she felt she had to prove she could sing, but it's too much for me.

It's utterly appalling and that's just her vocal on it.

The song itself is her shittest single by a mile.

I don't understand how someone who produced such gems in her first 2.5 albums is now putting out such crap. I don't like Gaga as a person, but I used to like her music and I expected better.

I really love it. Glad she hasn't released a song where it sounds like she wants to change the world.

The lead single of an album is not necessarily 'the best' (Applause, BTW) so although I like PI, I am confident there will be better on LG5.

I don't think anyone is saying that. I think most of us were just expecting something a bit better. The song production itself is brilliant but its let down by weak vocals and repetitive lyrics. I think they could have done better to be fair given who the producers were. I say it again, this song sounds like a B side or just an album filler. No way would I have expected someone like Lady Gaga to launch an era with this.

She's discussed this before, They pitched up her vocals on The Fame to suit to fluffy productions. This was dropped after The Fame Monster.

It's awful. She had a real chance here and she's messed up. Her first album was fantastic but as time went on the quality of her music declined and people become fed up of her...she became up her own backside and believed her own hype. She made a number of ridiculous comments. She did the right thing in going down the jazz route and acting for a while...it seems like she's been away for absolutely ages and she managed to generate a huge amount of buzz around her return. It's such a dissapointment though. I think she was right in doing a song that was more simple and not about wanting to change the bloody world, but it's a crap song! This is the woman who gave us gens such as Poker Face and Paparazzi. I think she's pretty much finished now in terms of huge commercial success. She'll never get back what she had. She had such a big opportunity to come back but it's turned out to be as dull as dish water.

Well, I love Perfect Illusion and pretty much all the music critics think it's great so I'm satisfied. People who want more Paparazzis and Poker Faces will inevitably be disappointed by her new direction. She's moved on, you should too.

I think its utterly shit! I'm not really sure what I was expecting to be honest given how generic ARTPOP was but I did expect alot better. To give the song credit though IT IS better than anything on ARTPOP so at least she did move in the right direction.

I personally also don't take any notice of the music critics. Perez Hilton once claimed Gaga people were giving critics exclusive access to her in return for positive reviews of during The Fame Monster days and she never sued him for slander so it must have been true and I can well believe it being so. I think Gaga is a lot like Taylor Swift when it comes to media management over her image.

I loved artpop ...but some people won't understand it. It is too artistic for them perhaps and not mainstream enough. It was catchy and eclectic ...and like BTW suffered from management over production ...she sounds like she is fighting that this time with PI ... and doing it her wrong way ...wrong or right in terms of mainstream appeal ...maybe she is embracing her own artistry and doesn't care ..but remains to have an eagle eye watching too. never a bad position to be in.
