Red One and Gaga was a winning team.

However I do think people just got bored of the attention seeking outfits etc

She has peaked same as Britney has.

The issue with Gaga is that she was completely overhyped and as is often the case, much of it felt rather forced and fake. Her team shouted her success from the rooftops in a way that you only really expect from long established artists. I remember at one point, they were boasting her having 6 US number ones. Except what they didn't say was that these were number ones on the Billboard pop music chart, not the all-important Billboard Hot 100.

Then things like being called 'Queen of Twitter', only for it to be discovered that many of her followers were actually zombie accounts, quite possibly bought by her own record company.

But really, it all comes down to the music. He early big hits like Poker Face, Just dance and Bad Romance were all legitimate smashes, however, they are very of their time and sound rather dated now. They all followed the same eurodance formula and I think gradually, people started to tire of her sound.

Then launching a new era with a song that was widely considered to be a Madonna copy, which she not only angrily denied and but also lied about (Madonna hadn't, contrary to what she claimed, sent her an email giving the song her blessing), pretty much did for her. From that moment on, I think she began to lose the public and has been on a downward spiral ever since.

The disaster that is Perfect Illusion could well be one of the final nails in her coffin.

I knew it was pants but I didn't expect it to flop like this. Maybe the video will help it although I don't really think it can now. For someone of her status this is pretty bad showing.

She has a big enough fanbase to sell a lot of albums for a few weeks but unless the second single is decent it will drop pretty fast.

i am worried the album is not going to be very good even though she has been working with some really good producers
do i care about sales? no not really, i dont understand why so many do, if i like an album i dont care if its sold 2 copies or 2 million copies.
i actually really love artpop, was listening to it earlier, its just unfortunate that is seen as an 'under performing album', yet i like pretty much every song on there MORE than i like Perfect Illusion. (apart from manicure which is awful).
PI isnt awful it just sounds like one of her demo's, its like somethings missing.
i hope to god this is just a blip and the album is a pleasant surprise.

PL to me just sounds like an album track. I loved it on first listening but I got caught up in the hype of having her back. It was only after I played it a few times that I realized how weak it was.

If PL is one of the best songs on the album, and lets face it the are using it to sell the album so it must be, then she is in big trouble imho.

Gaga's biggest problem is the fact she has always been a Billy bullshitter. From over hyping her projects to giving herself more credit than she deserves. I will never forget when she gave a speech once where she basically implied that gay people had no voice until she spoke for them. Its things like that what have stopped the public buying her records.

She looks stunning in the music video, definitely her best look

The video is fine. It's nothing special and certainly nothing that will give the single a boost.

I'm looking forward to the album - I was a huge fan of her at the start of her career and saw her Monster Ball Tour. By the time Artpop came around I was bored with the bulls*** antics and below par music and actually gave away tickets to that tour.

I'm hoping that Joanne is a return to form.

Perfect Delusion was a bad choice for first single. I think the album will be far better.

alot of albums these days seem to have weak lead singles but the album and future singles tend to better, so hope this is the same.

I don't like the video either. It screams 'trying too hard'.

I honestly think if this album sells below par and drops out the chart fast she is finished as a serious force in music.

I was a nice surprise with Britney's Glory and hopefully this will follow suit.

Such a disappointing video for a song that's really grown on me. If any Gaga video should be a bit outrageous, this is it. She may well have not even bothered, this video is so dull and generic. I'm not a "hater", by the way. I love Gaga hence my extreme disappointment she's released such forgettable visuals for such a fabulous song.

Disappointing which is a crying shame as she is talented and with the right song could have had a wonderful come back. I agree she needs another hit single and fast I sincerely hope the rest of the album is better, she is better than this trash why and how on earth her team let her put this out after such a long wait for her return to pop is an outrage.

I expected her to flop, and she has.
Her problems are multiple: firstly, she alienated the gay audience early by pronouncing herself "Queen of the gays" the LGBT community will attest, that's a role you EARN. Kylie/Madonna etc didn't do anything so gawky as DECLARE themselves as gay icons, it was bestowed upon them. That was an early fault, but showed what was to come.

Secondly her prentiousness. The costumes were OK but it got a bit overkill & people tired of her. Her claims of being an "artiste" got a bit wearisome as her biggest hits were behind her.

Artpop pretty much sunk her career-actually, as an album I dint actually think it's too bad. But she started with an incredible misfire of arrogantly talking up the album to an insane degree, with pretentious pronouncements, making it inevitable that the reality would be a disappointment . Her prentious interpretation of her music would go over the heads, or seem irrelevant, to most of her casual fans, anexample of this was her art meditation" vid pre-release, which was widely mocked.
Then came Applause, which wasn't even the best track on the album & a rivalry with Katy (which she arrogantly thought she would win -and made it very clear that she was confident she would)
The 2nd single, Do What you want, was a PR disaster, given the endlessly delayed vid, the collab with R Kelly who has a VERY dodgy reputation re:women. Having R Kelly singing with you "Do what you want with my body" is a SPECTACULAR faux pas, I'm amazed that no-one saw the potential problem here.

After that the album was doomed. GUY utterly tanked (pity as its a really strong pop song)

Her Tony Bennett collab may have been critically acclaimed but for most younger fans, it's of no interest. They have moved onto less showy, theatrical artists like Taylor Swift, Rihanna & Ellie Goulding.

Even her Bowie tribute was controversial.

I suspect a Gaga revival, of sorts is on the cards in a few years, but It'll be for the early Gaga only.

Blimey, maybe we should wait to see how the album performs before writing her career obituary

I don't agree. I feel the reason she has fans and why a lot of people related to her was because they felt different and didn't fit into society and how you are supposed to look. They connected with her odd looks in the way an earlier generation connected with people like David Bowie, Boy George, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Shirley Manson of Garbage etc. Sort of the patron saint of the outsiders and freaks.
To find out that the quirky weird look was just an act and not an honest reflection of her is kind of disillusioning.
I think that's why a lot of people don't like her. They don't find her genuine.

Perfect Illusion drops to number 44 on official charts

Exactly what it deserves.

It's a song that doesn't fit in with current singles chart consumption market.It is not a song that fit's in with normal hits radio stations, which boosts streaming chart positions etc (not entirely sure what platforms boost hit chart entries, these days).It still got to number 12 with limited airtime, yes it has dropped to 44 this week.Lady gaga uses a rock like vocal, especially towards the end, although still a prominent dance beat throughout.It's a little bit cross-over.

If you look at Beyonce's latest hit radio airplay, you will notice it is not getting much prominence either.The track's are even less suited to radio airplay.'Hold up' is getting alot of airplay on Capital Xtra (how many people listen to that ?), but hardly any other airplay.The 'Lemonade' album, although having quite big early sales (due to massive exposure) has dropped off massively since.Beyonce is not worried though as her current Formation World Tour is grossing $210 million (aided by the new audio-vision / album commercial push - which only seemed to last 5 minutes but with high impact).
It's obvious Lady GaGa is going for a 'live' market like Beyonce, due to the fact that is where the money is made in music these days, unless you count endorsement's - check out Rita Ora & the success she has had on that side of things.Can she really be considered a relevent music artist at the moment even?
It's too early to see how much Lady Gaga can attract as a live performer & whether she has increased her drawing potential since her last 'solo' album release.She will still attract a largish crowd on the back of her first album alone.All she needs is to do is let people now 'she is still around', primarily.

Let's face it: the only good song she's done since 'The Fame Monster' was 'Edge of Glory'. All the others are either poor or meh.

You could say the same about Beyonce.The singles she has brought out recently seem to have no commercial appeal at all on a hit radio type basis.She is the 1st or 2nd biggest live draw out there though.Gaga will still be in the top ten 'live' event attraction even if the albums / singles don't perform that well.The music industry has changed / is changing methinks.

You could outline, this fact to alot of people on pop forum's like this one, but I don't think they would have the least bit a apprehension on what direction the music industry seems to be going.There is still an appetite for hit radio 'at the moment'.Although listeners are falling amongst the young.There is very little hit music TV programmes being aired.30 somethings are basically keeping the 'hit radio' media format going.What will happen when 30 somethings turn into 40 somethings though.Can the 'hit format' be sustained by streaming which is young people's favourite method of listening.Even with millions of plays on the streaming format, the artist only get's back a few 1000 £$, if that even.

There is still alot of money to be made in the music industry, the singles / albums market is struggling though.It's becoming a promotional tool for selling tours, merchandise, endorsement's etc.
