I love the idea of the forum exploding with disgust from all the Mr and Mrs. Angrys from Tunbridge Wells!
Yet the very fact we're discussing the possibility of Ed making the Final, so matter of factly, shows he's head and shoulders above previous "comedy" pairings. Usually with the poorer dancers, there's plenty of wafting and posing content! This clever routine on Saturday though suited him perfectly and like so many, I was pleasantly surprised how light he was on his feet and just how well he was dancing. COME ON ED!

Yes, I've seen him compared to Jeremy a few times now. No idea why as Ed is a much better dancer. He just gets lumped in with the "comedy contestants" by default I think.
I don't know why so many people on the main forum are against Ed. I think he has really improved and danced a very good quickstep.

Just dropping in to let you know that Ed will be appearing on The Last Leg tomorrow evening in their US election special. Should be entertaining.
There seems to be a lot of people who are getting quite concerned about Ed's continued presence in this competition and even the possibility of him being in the final.
There is a lot to like about Ed and Katya. He is like the butterfly starting off as a caterpillar and then emerging from the chrysallis.
I wonder if this could end up having a bearing on things further down the line....

This normally happens at this time in the competition. I think his support could fade away later on, but I'm certainly happy for him to stay in for a while. There is no one that I would be distraught at losing.

I would trade Ed for two major things that have happened this year. I would dearly love the man to win, in fact it would follow the trend of the public voting Brexit and Trump. I have relatives in the States that will be feeling much as I did on the 24th June, but last night is much more serious.

It's ironic discussing two political events in the thread concerning an ex-politician who was very unpopular. I love him as a contestant but disliked him as an MP and can't abide his wife! But yes, if Trump can win then so can Ed
Maggie wanted me to make some comment on Ed's QS. I'm not terribly confident about this since a lot of the steps are off syllabus and so although I've danced some of them I don't know them in detail. Suggest asking Jennifer on the Ballroom Technique thread for a much better quality commentary.
I thought he has good posture although his neck sometimes gets shorter as his shoulders tense. He sometimes moves his hips back leaving a gap, but generally he looks good, if a bit fixed (the body needs to move and adjust more but the ability to do this is quite advanced since it is difficult to adjust but still maintain posture).
He does a lot of off syllabus steps that are mainly danced on balls of feet. I think there is a hop into some scatter chasses near the beginning which then gets repeated. These are nice and light.
Pendulum Is good and on time.
When he dances the more basic steps, he moves not quite so well across the room, although he looks better stepping backwards, and he's a bit flat footed. Also there are some missed heel leads.
I think he goes wrong towards the end.

I'm a bit anxious/nervous about this but YES!!
I'm not a dancer or have any real knowledge of it, but as a musician (not professional but does gigs) I think I have good rhythm and I sense that Ed was dancing behind the beat for his QS. However, it is a dance with a LOT of steps to fit in, so, as he is a beginner at every dance he does and the very nature of the dance, I can overlook that. He gave the impression that he was capable, though not polished, and able to learn from his teacher. To be honest I admire him greatly for all sorts of reasons:-
He is laying himself open to ridicule - from all sorts of people (media, politicians, dancers and the public).
He is going way beyond his comfort zone.
Trying to show people that "the new" and horizons are there to be taken and not to be shunned.
A sense of humour is needed to get through this life.
Humility and a willingness to embrace and learn new things in the face of someone who knows better (Katya).
This man is a gem, and despite the brickbats shown on here, the media and elsewhere has won the admiration and support of all kinds of people - even those who would have been considered his enemies.

It's most bizarre that Ed, to me a bastion of establishment politics, carries my hopes for major subversion on a prime time TV show! My niggle is that it fails to be either ...
As for austerity, it was a major lie by the political elite and their wealthier donors to maintain status quo. Cameron et al seized upon it and would have returned us to serfs had they the vision. May they all rot in peace when they die. Preferrably sooner rather than later.

Absolutely...i HAVE NEVER VOTED FOR LABOUR IN MY LIFE, but have voted for ed/kat since week 1. Why? Because I am tired of the usual dance schoolers and ex girl banders who frequent the top of the leaderboard, and have found ed's brilliant mix of moves and dad dancing and kat's choreography unmissable tbh.
I made an exception last year because I like Aliona!
But I hope Ed and kat get to blackpool and beyond!!

I agree that JC may not be the correct person but perhaps he is a spike to puncture the complacent, deliberately deaf liberal and political elite. I know Dervla is partial to JC - he has interesting initials - and like Dervla you are a very good writer.
I'm so excited about Ed's dance tomorrow. Really hope I'm not disappointed ...
There's always a little gem to be had when they show Ed & Katya in training. For me this week it was Katya butting in off-camera to correct Ed's pronunciation of "salsa"
