good comments, I hope you're right
I think the only other celebs I can think of who were rubbish to start with and who improved exponentially during the series were Darren Gough series 3 and Matt Dawson series 4, hope we can add Ed to the list Quote:
You are right of course...they can't choose which dances and when and know how they are going to go down with the public. Had they done them the other way around my guess is he would be winning more votes than danny will tonight! Sadly I don't see that being the case tonight....

I really, really hope they'll be OK this week. I would far rather watch them than any of the others.

With this in mind, after the jive, which I think will see Ed through to the next week, he has a run of dances that will be difficult to toy with. I would say his best combo after his jive is tango followed by AT. Think he could quite a good tango and then AT would offer opportunity for spectacle. The rumba will be their death knell. |

Just got back from The Wintergardens in Blackpool. We heard raucous laughter from one of the bar areas, turned around to see Katya giggling at Ed practising his jive solo. They then, with Neil moved on to watch the finals taking place. All three looked as though they were having a great time.

Ha! Love that story. It does seem they all get along really well. I love Katya and Neil's tweets. They seem so fun and relaxed. Partnering Ed with Katya was inspired.

Also Ed has improved week on week, his timing is spot on and HE IS DANCING - he certainly deserved more than a 4 from Craig too. While other couples are being overmarked, (IN MY OPINION last night Ore & Jo, Claudia & AJ and Kevin & Louise were all overmarked - the only couple who deserved 10s last night were Danny & Oti) - Ed and Katya are being under marked by some of the judges

So pleased Ed and Katya are through to next week. They really thought their time was up as they waited and no jubilation just happy to survive.
I wonder what the SCD producer will lumber Ed with next week |

Very pleased that Ed lives for another week at least. Think tango is one of the better choices from his remaining dances. Katya can inject drama and/or character into it.

, I can see how fit he's getting. He's also developing his core, which should help his posture no end.I love the tango, so dead chuffed Ed's got that, and I've seen in some interview somewhere that when he was interviewed before the series started he said he would love to learn a tango, so he's got his wish

The weight loss was really noticeable at Blackpool.
I thought beforehand the Jive would be their last dance and was even more convinced of it when they performed. Something was amiss for me and I think it was the fact that Ed and Katya couldn't just be Ed and Katya; there were all these other people interfering. The partnership itself has been the key ingredient to their success. We love seeing them dance together - just them - because they have such a unique chemistry. The stunt with the piano and the backing dancers disrupted that too much and took away the usual magic for me. I also thought Ed was flagging a bit! Not surprised, he's stayed in way longer than he expected and the Jive is physically demanding.. Anyway, they're through, that's the main thing and I'm pleased Tango's next! |

I think that is a good point Sid. I agree that the partnership is a key part of their appeal and so the extra Blackpool dancers may have distracted from that.
I think Tango is a good choice too. Katya can do a bit of story telling. Looking forward to it. |

I really don't like it when SCD goes to Blackpool, it seems something is made of it as being special just because it is "the home" of ballroom dancing. In reality, the sound is awful, the slebs, having just spent about 2 months dancing on a non-sprung floor and in more confined conditions may not be comfortable, they have to tolerate the additional whims of the producers by having the extra dancers after having rehearsed all week without them.
This did not work so well for Ed and Katya who coped with the conditions but were not able to give us the intimacy of their paring. Ed got by, but it was not a good week for them. However, if you were able to pick Ed out of the mayhem of the group dance, he acquitted himself quite well I thought and even held poor Claudia well. So that was two routines he had to learn - well done fella! I'm looking forward to their tango, a dance that will give some scope for story telling and I'm feeling more confident - I was not looking forward to their Jive after the fantastic dances they have given us so far. |

Like others I think you make a good point sid about the interference from extra dancers to the Ed-Katya dynamic. She seemed pleased with him after the dance so he managed to keep up even if was tough for him. Yes, his weight loss is profound! Loved his quiff.

US description in Wiki http://https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duck's_ass But in UK it was widely adopted by Teddie Boys. |
