I think you make very good points Sid. I'm not convinced with the song choice either this week. I do have total confidence in Katya's choreography however, which is a comforting thought. She always makes it work one way or another.

A trad Tango would be a chance to make viewers sit up and take notice for a different reason (and silence his naysays who insist on calling him the joke act that can't really dance). I suppose it would be the ultimate risk.

Sorry, one day I'll pop into the App Thread with a slightly more positive outlook! I am still looking forward to seeing what they do with this music. I just can't help wondering "what if" sometimes.”

It's a very fine line though, isn't it? Not everyone's as nerdy about SCD as we are, and I dare say many viewers may not have even noticed that Ed really is learning to dance - he's been the comedy act, and by God has he made us all laugh. But every week he manages to stay in, the more he's learning - and if he can get through to next week and, let's say, gets the VW to decent music, who knows what Katya can get him to produce. In other words, the longer he can stay, the more accomplished he'll get, hence the bigger the surprise to the wider viewing public, consequently the more votes he'll pull . This is my theory and I'm sticking to it.

Meanwhile, if Katya can cook up another genius routine, I reckon a tango to 'Satisfaction' with an affectionate homage to Mick and the gang could be just about right to see them through this week. And like I said, if they need to get serious thereafter, so be it.

Have we ever had a comedy rumba?

Can't decide whether Ann and Anton's would be classed as comedy or horror

Julian Clary's Top Gun Rumba springs to mind.

Ed was on Lorraine Itv yesterday approx 8.55 (episode 230) I don't know how to post the link from the ITV hub.
Here is an article re the interview. Ed is very candid about his ability and quite disarming.as he explains what happened during his disastrous paso. Ed has such a lovely and trusting relationship with Katya.

This week may be his last.....I hope not

I've never seen him as a comedy contestant but a contestant who can do comedy. Big difference and I'm peeved that he has been perceived that way - just as Sid has said. If he gets to the final, and I really hope he does, he will have the pressure taken off him (and Katya) to "play the clown" and to demonstrate, as we here all know he can, be a good dancer.

Go Ed and Katya!

At the moment, I dont think we need to worry, I think their dance will be great, and I wouldnt be surprised if they put lots of content into it, and have a "fun" element.

Looking at the training vid clips tonight, only Danny is looking the most technically competent, the rest seem to be on a par, so if we all vote like mad

It also looks like Ed's weight loss is accelerating, so that must be good for the dancing

nicely put BB

If Ed gets to the final, surely he's got to do Gangnam Style as his latin? That should get him the glitterball all on its own

Quote:
“I blame Katya.
First rule when you get a comedy contestant or an old duffer is to get them to do nothing and draw attention to yourself by whirling and thrashing about in a revealing costume.
She was never supposed to actually teach him some routines and throw the spotlight on his capacity to entertain through dance.
Someone didn't brief her properly.”

I blame her too!

Ed and Katya for the win.

On borrowed time?
Maybe they should have done another Stones classic...this could be 'THE LAST TIME'..
joking!!
Anyway has anyone seen their training clips this week? just hoping that they can make it...there are newspaper reports that the jooodges are going to make it even harder for E&K by throwing TWO dances at them ,thereby stranding them at the bottom of the leaderboard (as per bloody usual). No doubt it gets harder by the week to stay in for them....I really thought last week they might be in danger...but...
Thing is though, I thought their halloween cha cha cha was a hoot.....its been watched over 150k times on YT alone...!

Their training clips do not look good. Ed's body position looks wrong and his hold a bit broken when in promenade. Hopefully it was jusr because it was earlier in the week before Katya could get to work on his posture.

I'm in two minds about the music. On the one hand, I agree with Sid that something traditional would have been nice. On the other, I think the song lends itself to some story telling and might be Ed and Katya's best chance of getting hit compromise between content and performance/ entertainment.

Ann, I agree with you about the training clips, but then I thought we saw very little training.

We know Ed's footwork is great, it's the top half of his body that needs a lot of work

I cant imagine anyone else being bottom of the leaderboard, so as usual we'll all have to vote like mad

although on an optimistic note, in the training clips, Danny looks the best, the rest look very much on a par to me, no-one brilliantly good or brilliantly awful

We might get some clues in the training footage on the bbc site tomorrow, and Ed and Katya are on ITT I've waited all week for them to be on They have lots to talk about their tango, see if that gives us any clues *gets deerstalker hat ready*

This week is going to be a bit of a bonus for me as I'd fully expected last week to be Ed and Katya's swan song (I know, I should have had more faith!)

Really looking forward to it.

Go Ed!

It gets tougher by the week for our 'dynamic duo' to save themselves, or rather for us to save them. LETS JUST HOPE ED and KATYA can give us something memorable again, like they have done week after flipping week! AND....

keeeeep voting!!!

This week they're channelling Zoolander - Ed's a male model. What can possibly go wrong?

I'm glad Zoe gave Ed the opportunity to answer the critics on ITT tonight. Thought he handled it brilliantly and summed up exactly how most of his supporters feel. He'll be there for as long as enough people want him to be - simples!

FAB FAB FAB

just catching up with ITT what a fab interview

Ed is starting to flirt with Katya a bit, what a joy is that

Their dance obviously telling a story, we'll need to vote in droves to get them through, but get them through we must

You've probably read this from Katya's Twitter but thought I'd share it anyway. A charming insight into the world of Ed & Katya, from Katya's perspective (esp loved learning Ed wears rainbow-coloured laces).

Katya seemed particularly animated on ITT tonight. They're having the time of their lives. Such a happy partnership. And once again - loved her clothes and hair. She looked fabulous.

I like that article. I think it shows how the relationship between dance teacher and student should work with mutual respect.

In the training video, Ed looks a bit too high, with not enough strength in the legs, as is often the case with strictly tangos

Each time I see Katya I love her even more and her and Ed's partnership is a thing of beauty. Ed doing the Samba rolls with Danny was fabulous Looking forward to their Tango.

Not a thing they can do about it if the public vote keeps them out of the dance off.

Ed and Katya, tango, Rolling Stones, Zoolander - gets my vote! Cant wait for the blue steel face!
