As the Square set is being rebuilt, does anyone know why there are random construction sites popping up around the square? Where the porta cabin used to be, where the old doctors surgery used to be, Max's old house and now outside Phil's house. Does anyone think it's more than just for storyline purposes?

It had its uses when it was providing more screen time for that gorgeous builder Andy but they might as well get rid of it now.

It adds a sense of realism to a very unrealistic show.

Its London, there's always building work going on. You can't escape it.

The BBC did the same with the change to HD.
The houses all got a makeover with scaffolding up etc
Seems pointless if they are repairing the houses sets if they will be torn down shortly...

True. Every time I go to London - especially the City and Docklands areas it amazes me the construction work that is going on, we can't be doing that bad financially as a country. ⛏🔨⛏💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻

They are actually re doing the set which is the reason for the scaffolding everywhere. It's all been a bit confusing but i reckon they should have come up with a storyline like an explosion just to make it tie in.

Actually is quite realistic. Very big redevelopments in East London at the moment so ties in with real life.

To be honest the whole of London is 1 fat construction site at the moment especially East,South and Central so it's very realistic.

Yes. This is the Actual reason but as others have said, it's looks very authentic and like a lot of areas in East London

I thought they were rebuilding Albert Square on another lot then building the new set where the old Albert Square once was. Surely they wouldn't need the 'scaffolding'
Maybe you're right though. The whole set seems to have work being done to it. Sure that's why Phil went in his Car Lot rampage too!

The existing lot was never built to last 30 years so over the last 15 they've had to rebuild and repair many parts of it. The Beales house, the B&B, Max's, The Queen Vic. I think the work outside the Mitchell's and No 43 is just more maintenance to keep the set standing. However it does add fuel to the fire that the set is not actually going to be rebuilt. Why would the BBC spend money on maintenance if they are tearing it down in a year?

The set build is already underway.

The original plan was to build a temp set on an old car park, this idea was scrapped. The new set is now being rebuilt over the existing one. This is why it will not be completed until 2018 now. A year later than expected. In a short while all of George St and Turpin Road will disappear for a period and the only outside set we will see is Albert Square.

I don't know if the continual building/scaffolding is realistic or not - but what is wrong is the unguarded ladder leaning against the building day and night... Health and safety BBC, tut tut.....

Oh ok thank you mate
Didn't realise the plan had changed.
So the square will be stood exactly where it always was. Suppose that's good then.
Thank you 🙂🙂🙂
Thought there must be more to it...
