His return and opening up the Mark storyline has been a huge flop. It could only ever have worked with a full time return by Kemp which was never going to happen anytime soon.

He would've beaten them, he just didn't get the chance because they ran away like little babies!

It's been great entertainment having the Mitchell brothers back on screen shame it couldn't be for longer

I must admit the storyline does seem rather rushed. With Ross Kemp leaving EE soon there doesn't seem to be enough time for this story to develop further.

This storyline regarding the reveal of Grant's son Mark would only have worked properly if:

Ross Kemp would have agreed to a minimum 4-6 month stint
Had Grant had returned for a longer stint, this would have allowed the storyline to develop before and beyond the big reveal, including Grant getting used to the idea of having a son and him interacting with both Michelle and Mark and eventually getting to know his son properly on-screen.

Bringing back Michelle Fowler either with Susan Tully returning or a new actress to play her.
Michelle really needs to return for this storyline. It seems really odd that Michelle, who has been keeping this secret for so long, for her to not want to defend Mark or at least try to keep the secret safe by returning to the square. I know the ex producer admittedly failed to persuade Susan Tully to return as Michelle when he was in charge, but they should have re-cast her, it's been over 20 years since Michelle was last seen so surely this would have worked if they had got the right actress for the job.

As the story was rushed to fit in with Ross Kemp's 3 week stint, we'll probably see Grant storm off on Friday never to be seen again and Mark to return to Florida.

The dream scenario would probably be for Grant to invite Mark back to Portugal with him and for him to accept but surely this won't happen this quickly after Mark knowing the truth. Time will tell

Grant can't go back to Portugal since there is nothing to go back to. Does seem strange Michelle being mentioned so much yet not making a appearance but there is no chance of her being recast. I thought this stint was gonna be longer than the others, 2 or 3 weeks?

So do Grant, Mark and Courtney all leave tomorrow then?

What a waste of time. Its like Dominic Treadwell-Collins was desperate to take the credit for outing this secret yet we aren't going to see any of the fall out for it!

Yes me too. Ross Kemp isn't in the cast for next week's episodes so I'm assuming this week is his final week, unless he has got one final week which will be shown later this month, perhaps to tie in with Sharon's discovery in a couple of weeks maybe. If he is back again for a final week, maybe Grant will do his usual strop act and storm off after confronting Ian, Sharon and Mark.

Also I read another poster say sadly that just because Ross filmed 3 weeks, doesn't necessarily mean he is back for 3 weeks worth of episodes.

The people dissing Ross Kemp as an actor didn't live the 90's when he owned the screen week on week. If you did, something was in your eyes for 10 years.

Go by the 06 episodes at your peril.

Totally agree especially when Ross and Steve had scenes together. They were just incredible. They seemed to just bounce of each other. They were the best thing in EE for about a decade. No one has come close since. EE at its best. Even now that chemistry is still there. Wonder what viewing figures were this time when grant was in it?

I don't know the average ratings for Grant's return but Tuesday's episode attracted 6.14 million viewers.

I think this is above the normal average. Doesn't EE normally get around the 3 million viewers mark? This is really good. Ross Kemp mentioned in the DS interview the new producer hasn't approached him to return to EE. Hopefully Sean O'Connor will approach him with some kind of deal, if only a return for over Christmas. They really could do with giving both Ross and Steve a two hander episode. That would work really well.

They should just try to get Grant in for good and have him back home in The Vic running it with Belinda. Ross even said himself his family want him to stop with all the travelling around the world to film with gangs so maybe that's a sign he is EastEnders ready again.

They've never gone that low. It's always at least double that.

Even if he stopped making documentaries i don't see ross returning full time. Making Documentaries is a passion for him and i just don't see him stopping completely but maybe cutting back and changing the subject matter so its less dangerous. I remember he did a documentary on soldiers injured in combat and looking at how they managed. He might do more shows like that.

In the below interview with Yahoo Ross Kemp states that he wouldn't rule out completely another return to EE..

https://uk.news.yahoo.com/eastenders...060104316.html

He says he doesn't think there are plans to bring him back but never say never

On a serious note though, reading this interview makes you wonder how on earth Ross managed to fit in both EE and Extreme World! The filming schedules Ross had to contend with seem pretty exhausting.

He seems much more amenable to the show, like he's come to terms with the fact that he's Grant first, Ross second...that's great, When you're a TV icon you should embrace it. The fact is EE was fun when Ross was a regular in the cast.

Also, I like that he say's they haven't approached me yet for another stint...that implies that if he is approached, he'll go back, whereas in the past he was very vague and just kept repeating never say never so as to not disappoint his fans with an absolute rule out.

Grant is an EE legend. For someone who had returned after 10 years away from acting, he's doing well. He seems to be really enjoying his return, so I hope in another 10 years he's happy to accept a full time return when he's at a stage to consider giving up the documentaries.

Monday's episode really did feel like an old school EE episode, and I loved it. I'm just really pleased to see Grant back and I love how the focus seems very much on 'the next generation' of Mitchells rather than Phil and Grant themselves. Throw in the fact we've got Sharon and Kathy in the mix and it's pure fan heaven.
