Loved grant punching Ian, especially after his comment about how he'd brought Courtney up! Ian can hardly talk - he's not exactly got the best track record!

I do like Ross Kemp and have watched and very much enjoyed some of his documentaries but I personally don't think he can act.

As for the character of Grant, he is only a low level thug like his brother with no redeemable features whatsoever. I have never liked or seen the value of the Mitchell brothers. I do appreciate he has somewhat garnered iconic status, that however does not change my opinion. They are both over-hyped and over-rated in my view, even if it's not the hip thing to say on here (with the exception of my mate Keyser) as they seem very popular on DS. I rarely dislike characters on EE but the Mitchells were burnt out by the mid nineties and it's just tedious now.

I disagree about it being better than Pam's but for me it was no worse than a lot of crying scenes you get in soaps.

Gillian is fine IMO. She was always an okay actress and nothing more. That hasn't changed. She does a convincing job on the whole and in her previous stint created a loved character who was part of several memorable storylines. Casting directors haven't stinted in hiring her to work on other shows so I take the 'worst acting ever' hyperbole type comments with a pinch of salt.

only watched tonight to see Colin.

The rest was usual standard. Average. An episode set around one of the fringe families.

Ross Kemp may be limited as an actor but he does have charisma on screen. I love the Mitchell brothers. There can't be enough scenes between Phil and Grant for me. They are so much more interesting than irritants like Carmel.

0/10 Episode
10/10 MyLauren
0/10 MyCindy

Paul really wound me up this episode, lying about like that.

Who does that repulsive, evil McBeale bitch think she is moralising to anyone about how to raise kids? Her track record:

Drove Steven to shoot her.
Stuffed Lucy's corpse into a boot then flung her into a ditch.
Peter turned out to be a spineless impotent drug dealer with absolutely no friends.
Claimed Bob as her own and then turned him into a serial killer.
Tried to steal a baby from MyCindy and then drove her out of the country as punishment.

Mim is a shrewd and no nonsense woman - I've long thought that the decor in Pam's kitchen was awful and that someone should pull her up about it.

The only highlight is that we weren't subjected to yet another 15 minutes of bitter spiteful Denise bringing down the mood of any room she walks into.

Thanks.

I was very surprised by Grant in tonights episode when he was talking to Ben about him being there at Pauls funeral

The old Grant would not say all that stuff, like him saying to Ben, Did you love Paul

Because im sure he was not that broadminded back then, as he is nowadays

Ian's glasses falling off when Grant punched him was one of the best things this year in Walford ! How didn't they break!?

Lol @ Grant when he flipped when Mark and Courtney were about to kiss and punching Ian I do hope Mark and Grant can bond. Shirtless

Lin Blakeley and Roger Sloman were immense tonight and deserve some recognition for their role as grieving grandparents. I found it so sad when Pam kissed Paul goodnight. So heart-breaking, and the scenes where the carriage was leaving the Square were beautiful and touching. Dona and Claudette are good allies to the Cokers and I always like their scenes with them. The casting of Pam's sister Min is spot on - they're so alike with their personalities I am so sad they are going.

Sylvie doing the splits was gold A 70 year old woman puts us to shame! I do agree she needs to go in a home, and take Tina and Sonia with them. Dot - I can understand her objections of a gay wedding as she's from a different generation, but I do hope we see a bit more of Colin (he was my MEP when I lived in the Midlands until 2009 and he's my party!) - kind of a put Dot's mind at peace sort of thing.

I know it's SOC's first week, but he's getting the hang of it. I just hope he makes his mark in a good way with proper character driven storylines, not one family dominating.

10/10”

I echo your thoughts Neil. I thought it was a great episode, no better writer for the job.

I think it'll be a few weeks before we see any SOC influence.

Ross's acting has been alright in my opinion. It's the storylines that haven't been up to scratch. The Mark Jnr thing should have been left well alone. Even if I did like seeing him topless tonight. It should never have come out with Grant only popping back for a week here and there and Michelle not showing her face at all. Michelle writing that letter to Peggy undermines everything she was about.

The Ben/Jay kidnap plot was something else I could have lived without. It's awful that Paul's death has been used to prop up the Mitchells and show us them at their clichéd worst. This was not the right storyline to infuse with soapy sensationalism and it's not even as though the kidnap scenes had a dramatic pay off. I don't think I'll ever forget that scene of a grimacing Grant running at Paul's killers with a baseball bat but not for any positive reason. Pam and Les grieving for their grandson, the most affecting bit of the story, was sidelined.

Grant should have been back on the scene to make peace with his feelings for Sharon once and for all which were evident in the ep where Peggy died. Sharon has been really cold with him since. I can understand her not wanting a repeat of their near kiss but I really thought we'd get more exploration of their feelings for each other. Sharon did tell Jane that she was tempted to take things further. Peggy's death ep also hinted at a feud between Phil and Grant over money yet Grant has hardly mentioned Phil stealing his money since then.

There's been a few good scenes... one or two with Peggy, his cameo at the funeral, a couple with Courtney, tonight with Phil, and that one with Jane when they first saw each other again. These have stopped his return from being a total write off.

IMO the Mitchell family is bloated so if Grant's to return in any capacity I'd want it downsized considerably first. They can start by getting rid of Louise whose presence is diminishing Lisa as much as Kamil's is Zainab. My preference, rather than bitty appearances in daft storylines, would be for him to return full-time allowing for a Grant and Sharon reunion. They were a miles superior pairing to Phil and Sharon. I can't see Ross committing to that though.

Good episode, but I'm a bit sad that the whole Nark Jr secret is basically out now. I'm not saying it shouldn"t have been revealed, but for so long we were waiting for it to happen and now we can't look forward to it. Does that even make sense?

Plus the small Grant returns have been really annoying. Wish he just came back for a month or two. I literally can't even remember what happened in the second return!

That's the thing which really makes me angry. It's spoiling my interest in all the things that are going on with the Mitchells right now. How can Ben, of all people, not get Phil and Grant to do something? 😡
