About a week after i downgrade from unlimited data as well .. bugger

We'll see though, they've been promising it for years now so i won't believe it until it actually happens.

About time too. I've been with Virgin Mobile for years but had been contemplating moving away from them to get 4G. We'll just have to wait to see what the tariffs look like. I currently have unlimited calls/texts and 3GB of data (but only usually use 1.5-2GB) for £15. I might be tempted to pay a little more for 4G but not a lot since most of my internet use is on wi-fi.

Interesting development, but their current 3G-only offerings are pretty poor value - remains to be seen which way this will affect that!

About time really.

The most recent series of virgin sims (the trio sims) should connect you to 4G once the 4G service becomes active.

Mind you I only use a virgin sim with £0.00 credit inserted in my Samsung Galaxy smartphone to connect up to wifi hotspots when out and about via the wifi buddy app.

They may well offer more data to become competitive once their 4G service becomes active, though it's highly unlikely they will be offering unlimited data either PAYG or contract.

As a 3G only network, they haven't exactly been pushing the boat out to compete with their main rivals since other networks all started providing a 4G service.

And their call charges are very expensive as well. They give you 3GB of currently 3G data and 3000 texts to use from the 1st day of the month to the end of the month on PAYG for free (provided you top up £15 before the end of the previous month), and you may not run out of data or texts which means you still have £15.00 credit before making calls, but you will soon run out of credit in about 45 minutes of call time (They give you 0 minutes of call time with the data and texts unlike everybody else). If you do run out of data before the end of the month and use extra data you are charged at £1 for up to every 100MB used, so even using just 1MB for the rest of the month above the 3GB of free data they give you, you are charged the additional £1 (it comes off your credit), and you might not even realise it as background apps can consume a lot of mobile data. A big rip off as it stands.

Why can't virgin offer data, texts and calls on PAYG rather than doing a choice of texts and data or texts and calls and deduct the £15 as an add on from your airtime balance after calling 789 or doing it online, instead of keeping the £15 you've topped up before making calls or consuming data that are not included in your package?

Sounds great the 3GB of data (big texts and data) or 120 mobile minutes (big calls and texts) plus a stackload of texts. But the extortionate costs of the part which is not on offer i.e calls on the big texts and data, and data on the big calls and texts mean the airtime balance is soon wiped out making their PAYG one of the poorest value for money on thr mobile market.

It's as though Virgin are expecting you on PAYG to use up all of the free calls or data as well as £15 you've topped up before the end of the month, as well as forking out a lot more money to consume even more data and make even more calls to cover you for the rest of the month, with £15 of that extra top up you will use up by the end of the month going towards free calls or data for the following month.

Seems like you need to fork out £40+ per month with virgin on PAYG just to get a good amount of both data and mobile minutes as well as the stackload of texts that all their competitors are offering for £20.
