t.A.T.u have lots more songs than we think!

This is their 2010 hit Sparks
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S0sXkdRwCPo

They have come on in leaps and bounds and are actually good vocalists now. Sparks is rather catchy.

They had 2 songs in the UK then faded to obscurity. Why haven't they been bigger over the years?

The fact the whole pretending to be lesbians killed their careers instantly. They are a fine example of what people will do to generate media and a number 1 hit. And they did pull it off. Until one of them was caught by the paparazzi with a baby bump and holding a man's hand.

Because they (as in manager and label) were quickly shown to be manipulating the public, and that rarely works for an artist. Better to be talentless and honest (more or less), than talented and fake.

I liked them. Their two UK songs were great and 200km... etc was a pretty good dance/ pop album. Had someone not decided to launch them with the whole lesbian schtick, who knows, they may have succeeded on their own merits. The video was controversial enough on its own to get mass media attention. The sexuality side of it didn't need inventing.

All About Us is still a massive fave of mine. I prefer it to All the Things She said.

Quite liked 200 KM/H In The Wrong Lane and prefer their version of How Soon Is Now over the Smiths.

Trevor Horn produced their 2 biggest hits and he has a history of turning something very ordinary into something very good. He produced Frankie Goes To Hollywood who may have not been so well known without his input, doubt if this version of Relax would have been one of the biggest hits of the 80s.

As for t.A.T.u., the schoolgirl lesbian controversy probably contributed to their success but think the production is a bigger factor, it flattered them.

A lot of music is fake though. How many boybands are 100% straight? Is Justin Beiber really a rebel without a cause?

Maybe because they split up years ago? Julia went a bit out of control, had problems wit her voice and eventually some ill-judged homophobic comments meant Lena vowed never to work with her again.

All of their albums were absolutely top class electronic pop. Lena also continues as an excellent solo artist and collaborator with dance acts, but without the T.A.T.u. brand isn't as high profile as she deserves to be.

They certainly have more songs than I thought because I didn't know they had any.

They made some really amazing videos. I loved them and had their first album in English and Russian. I particularly liked the unreleased Stars. The videos for All About Us and All the things she said were great but my favourite one is the video when one of the girls is a guard in a prison camp and the other one is a prisoner. Can't remember what it's called but it's a great video

I never understood why people would buy a single because there are lesbians in the video. A more innocent/repressed time.

That may have appealed to a certain demographic but think the controversy surrounding it may have contributed to its success. Controversy = publicity = sales.

And because it was really good! A bit of Trevor Horn magic fairy dust usually results in a top track.

Such a love for t.A.T.u - I adore White Robe, I love the majority of their music, Lena's solo stuff is decent too.

At the time All The Things She Said was used as Victoria's entrance music in WWE. It was quite fitting.

She certainly did. She also showed incredible double standards.

I'm disappointed she'd say that
All the Things She Said/Not Gonna Get Us were great pop/dance tunes (liked the Russian original too).
