Colin was an old neighbour of Dot's. When Dot found out he was gay and in a relationship with Barry, she lied and told the whole square he had aids. Eventually Dot was proved wrong and got used to them being gay.
Just read on DS, that fans were angered with Dot last night.
Should Dot feelings about Gay marriage have talked up again, following to this storyline.

This. Who on the day of the wedding decides to personally go to that person's home to take them to their wedding. Why does he care if Dot comes, all these years and now all of a sudden Dot must be at his wedding.

We don't know if they haven't spoken in years though, do we? They might have been in contact for a long time and we just haven't seen.
Personally, I think they might be trying to trick us into thinking Dot's reason is a homophobic one, but then will reveal it as someone else. Perhaps the individual he's marrying is a wrong'un?

He didnt seem to know she was Dot Branning, the letter he sent was to Dot Cotton, Dot even said that he only ever knew her as Cotton
I was looking forward to it but I was pretty puzzled as to why, after nearly 30 years of non contact, it was absolutely vital Dot would be there. I mean who personally sees someone who made your life terrible through slander and insist they attend the wedding, is she the vicar or something
