I don't expect much response since we're talking real music and not manufactured stuff....

But if any others out of the majority care to listen and compare real 70s soul, well it would be good to get a comparison going on.

So go for it and listen to some serious long version stuff like *Gypsy Man".........versus "The Stop and Go"!

I absolutely love both....but feel Hamilton Bohannon has the edge over War.

I much prefer War to Bohannon.

I have some 12" records of War which I got cheaply back in the 80s.
There's such variation in their music, funk, jazz, R&B, Latino, blues as well as soul.

"Cisco Kid' is a fav of mine. A mighty song.

War for me too. Great musicians who could make any subject sound funky - even nuclear war.

Still hear a few War songs played at the sort of places I go to mainly The World Is A Ghetto and Me And Baby Brother.

As for Hamilton Bohannon, I remember being 10/11 years old when Let's Start to Dance Again came out and loving that whole vibe. Still gets played now and again but not often enough

This is my favourite War song. My favourite from Hamilton is Disco Stomp, although I quite liked South African Man too.

I absolutely adore South African Man. As soon as I play it at a party out of the blue, it really gets people right up there strutting their stuff and completely letting themselves go. That's the affect it has on the party.

Nice to have reason to remember it out of the blue. I am currently listening to a 70s music show on Tameside Radio. If they don't play it I must listen to it on Youtube afterwards!
