Cover versions
While looking in the underrated songs of the 80's thread I was reminded of an old fav of mine so I found it on Youtube. In the 'related' section there was a cover version of it, now I'm not a fan of covers but if you're going to do it then do it a different way.
The Promise - When in Rome(original) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5HI_xFQWiYU The Promise - Sturgill Simpson(cover) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eWJmN8D820 One lifts me up the other back down again, see if you guess which. Your challenge, to find other diametrically opposed cover versions. |

I've always preferred Ray Stevens sped up version of 'Misty' to the slower versions
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9d5Qpmwq4bE although some of the slower versions do still appeal to me, especially when someone as classy as Ella Fitzgerald is singing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPOlakkBlj8 |

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NTmk0Pqk6hs Thoughts? Most people have no possibility of playing YouTube videos on their phone, no need to keep the song a secret from us. |

God bless you two and his family always!!! ![]() Holly P.S. Wow. When did being consistent in getting the word out about a favorite who is not that well known compared to other singers become such a terrifying thing to do? |

Some songs are such classics that maybe they should never be covered. Nevertheless here are two efforts I'm quite fond of.

its called overkill .... we all get the message, it does get a little tiresome though when every post you seem to make is about one artist. others exist you know!
![]() As for there being other singers out there, I am already well aware of that because I do have other favorites. I actually just left a message about one of my other favorite singers in the country music appreciation chat. ![]() Quote:
