James is now up to number 5 in the iTunes charts, which is really incredible considering he's had literally no promotion for this track.

Also he's signed to Sony Entertainment Germany apparently

This is brilliant. What effect will this have on the actual chart?

Well the single charts these days are mainly digital sales and streams. I don't think James will be The Chainsmokers for number 1 this week with streams added on but I think he might just be able to beat them in sales.

Who knows though, it's incredible that he's gotten to number two in the iTunes charts as is.

Glad to see he is doing well. It's a good song.

He needs to do well with physical CDs and streaming services like 'Spotify', 'Deezer' too. ITUNES alone isn't going to have much of an impact on the chart.

With him being at #2 on itunes, I imagine that will safely see him into the top ten this week. He needs a significant contribution from streams too, however. With Calum Scott, Bieber's two singles and Chainsmokers all big streamers at the minute, I don't see him making it top 5 just yet but it's only been out for a week - it took Calum Scott months to get this high, and James has barely had radio or TV support. It's astonishing really.

Who releases physical cd singles today?

But you are right Streaming is the most important factor, even though he has incredibly well on iTunes all week he'll probably debut lower because of his streaming.

Though right now this is great for James, as the success of the song on iTunes should result in Spotify adding it to its crucial playlists soon and radio will most likely start to play it too.

He might at a push overtake them on the live iTunes chart but he isn't going to be #1 on the official sales chart this week. He'd need to be #1 on iTunes for most of the week for that to happen.

I reckon top 25 for official chart entry this week, hopefully top 15 next week if he keeps selling and streams continue to gain.

Has Ed Sheeran sued him yet ?

That's what I was referring to when I said chart, should've put iTunes chart (my bad!).

I think James could push for a top 15 maybe even a top 10 as he seems to be doing pretty well on streaming services right now. Its next week where he'll suffer I think as people are moving to university which means more pre-drinks where Chainsmokers, Drake etc will be on the playlist instead of James.

I'd say Top 10 is pretty much out of question for this week now, but maybe next week if he keeps selling.

Just seen that he has had 3 million streams on veto alone. That's brilliant

Yeah it is doing really well, I am actually not much of a James fan but I am enjoying seeing him succeed despite the odds.

He has also been playlisted by Capital, which is HUGE, and Heart have gave it some spins so looks like he'll have their support too.

The whole reason I replied to your post before was to say that although he is doing well on Vevo, that won't help him at all in the charts and Vevo streams don't count towards the charts.

He really needs added to the Spotify playlists, which hopefully he will and I reckon is going to happen.

I had no idea that vevo views/ streams didn't count towards the charts.
Thus whole new way the charts are counted has gotten me all confused

This has sort of come out of nowhere. It will be interesting to see if this is just a one off or if he has an album which also proves popular and does well. Considering the absolute crap he was spouting and his previous behaviour, I'm surprised that the public are even bothering with him seeing as the British public/media love nothing more than to knock someone down. Build them up and then knock them down is what the British media love...although to be fair his behaviour was disgusting. Will be interesting though to see if perhaps this sets a precedent for other XF winners/contestants making a comeback. Interestingly Cher Lloyd has been all over the media the last few days and she's like a completely different person...so much more grown up and mature and she has new music coming out. Alexandra Burke has also been tweeting about album number three which is apparently very, very different.

To be fair to James...he went away and worked very hard behind the scenes . His album is out " before Christmas " and is likely to sell well. He has loads of fans around the world.
He is extremely talented and deserves another chance.

To be fair though he didn't actually do anything that bad.

Yeah his comments were not acceptable but there is loads that have done worse....much worse and they have been given many more chances

Are you joking? His comments were disgusting. He might be talented, but as a person he's horrible.
