Good evening everybody, and welcome to my first ever official Coronation Street episode thread (after a few false starts.)

Above is a poll to rate tonight’s offering (after both episodes - I see you sneaking in there with a 1 before it’s even started!)

Let’s see what’s in store for you lucky lot:

Episode 1:

Spoiler
With Bethany suspended from school, David agrees to let her work in the salon for the day. As Bethany sweeps up, she pours her heart out to David and admits how much she misses Kylie. Soon afterwards, Lauren calls in the salon and finds Bethany alone, putting the frighteners on her once again.

When David returns and interrupts, he makes out to Lauren that it's time they all buried the hatchet. He sends Bethany out for coffees and insists Lauren must have a free hair do. As a delighted Lauren settles back for a blow dry, David has a sinister plan in mind...

Meanwhile, an excited Caz hugs Maria, explaining that she's got an interview later that day after Maria helped her with her CV earlier in the week. Soon afterwards, Kate rows with Caz in the street, accusing her of using Maria. Kate then spills coffee down Caz's interview suit.

Elsewhere, Audrey feels unwell and suggests that Maria should find someone else to take to the Regional Stylists' Awards. When Maria invites Luke to be her plus one, he accepts immediately and hopes they might get back together.

Also today, Todd tells Eileen that he's moved into the rectory with Billy. With Todd gone, Sean asks Eileen if he can move back in. Will Eileen agree?

Finally, a concerned Sarah cancels Bethany's gym membership, Izzy gets suspicious over Gary and Sarah spending time together, while Craig considers writing a letter to his father.

Episode 2:

Spoiler
Chopping a chunk out of Lauren's hair, David tells her that if she ever bullies Bethany again, it'll be her throat next time. Threatening to call the police, Lauren flees the salon and is scared witless. Gemma watches her go.

When Bethany realises what David has done to Lauren, she fears that he's made matters much worse. Sure enough, the police soon call at the salon and question David over Lauren's allegations. David makes out that Lauren booked a haircut but changed her mind half way through. When Gemma backs him up, will the police accept his story?

Back at the Platts', David assures Gail that he's binned the blood stained hoodie and is determined to move on with his life. However, David isn't being entirely honest – he's set up a fake profile online and sends a friend request to Macca...

Meanwhile, Luke is dressed in a tux and meets up with Maria. Maria's heart sinks, worried he's reading more into their date than she intended. As they set off to the awards ceremony, they find a teary Caz at the bus stop, who explains that she's missed her interview.

Telling Luke to wait for her in The Rovers, Maria takes Caz home. Caz then opens up to Maria and admits that she misses the army and is finding it tough adapting to normal life. Realising Caz needs her support, Maria calls a gutted Luke and cancels their date. Back at the flat, as Maria gets changed, Caz can't help watching admiringly.

Elsewhere, Todd produces a DVD and suggests a cosy night in to Billy, but the mood is ruined when Billy admits that he feels it's too soon for them to be living together.

Also today, Faye dupes Kirk into revealing which prison Craig's dad is being held in.

On this day - 9th September

1985 - Bet Lynch opens the newly refurbished Corner Shop when Miss Weatherfield proves unavailable. A drunken Alf Roberts proposes to Rita Fairclough.

1987 - Bet Lynch marries Alec Gilroy.

2012 - Kirsty Soames goes into labour after Tina McIntyre pushes her over in The Rovers Return. She later gives birth to daughter Ruby in the back room, helped by Marcus Dent and Gloria Price.

A knighthood? A death warrant would be more appropriate.
