Better than Monday which was just utterly atrocious. But still far too much going on (yet very little at the same time) and all just clobbered together. Episodes just seem like a load of random scenes slapped together and all the storylines are rather dull to me.
Todd and Billy, I just can't warm to them as a couple. I liked Todd and Karl but that was the only dynamic that's really worked for me. Todd needs to be the weaker person in the partnership; we need him with someone who helps him through the issues he's repressed for years and help him heal the wounds of his past. Billy is just frustrating (even his face irritates me - hope he's bumped off one day maybe in the crossfire Phelan/Vinnie's scheme). Their scenes just really bore the shite out of me.
Don't dislike Caz as much as others on here but Maria's whining and whingeing is getting interminable, it was all laid on thick tonight with poor-old-Luke in his tux hoping things would be different this time then Maria running to Caz's rescue aaaagain. At least Caz's character of being ultimately very insecure is coming across. It shocks me to say this storyline is probably the one that's most interesting me at the moment, as in and of itself it's not great.
The scenes with David and Lauren were also quite poor in my opinion. It's the dialogue letting this storyline down. While Lucy Fallon has been fantastic as Bethany (especially earlier in the SL) the actress playing Lauren is being given poor lines as the bully. It's so unrealistic she'd go this far out of her way all on her own without a gang, to keep causing trouble, especially after the school already having got involved and suspended her. Unfortunately this plot's gone down the pan so it'd be good for it to be wrapped up soon.
One good point of the episode was Gail's scene with David when she tried to reason with him about the blood-stained top. Also quite enjoyed Faye's mission to help find out which prison Craig's Dad's in. And the potential friendship between David and Gemma could be nice, she's innocent and positive and he's corrupted and negative; together they could help each other and be a good little duo as friends. The two actors have pretty good chemistry as well.
When all is said and done though, it's all still really forced and slapped together right now. Monday was utterly abysmal and Wednesday wasn't much better, but this is still nowhere near good enough. I hope this is all just the tail-end of Blackburn's work and plotting and Kate Oates is just making the best of wrapping these stories up so her own work can come through, because it still feels like the merry-go-round of contrived rubbish we've been served up for a long time with very few exceptions on the show.
