Friends who have not kept in touch.
Was that stated by either of them then? I must've missed that if it was.

I don't think it matters even if they haven't. You can still invite people you haven't seen or spoken to for a while but were once fond of to an occasion like an wedding.

Dot and Colin did have a close friendship. As said tonight Dot was homophobic to Colin but she mellowed after being educated on the facts surrounding aids. Maybe her eventual acceptance of him is something that has always stuck with him hence why it was important for him to have her with him on his wedding day. In fact Colin said as much. Their scenes tonight were really good imo a treat for long term fans.

Was the bit about Colin being disowned by his parents possibly a retcon? Or did they manage to bring back a character and keep total continuity lol? If you look back Colin's parents never appeared in the show so it makes sense really. That's what the walking stick was for (MS) not part of the wedding costume.

Also the guy who tried to give Dot the invitation was the guy Colin is marrying. Does not really explain why she was trying to hide from him how on earth would she have known who he was?

Funny bit of dialogue here from early 1989...

Dot - What's it like, up at the big house?
Nick - Huh, is that what you call it in Walford?
Dot - Well, I can't bring meself to say the word 'prison'
Nick - Dickens Hill! Oh, its a bundle of laughs. Like Disco night every day. I've changed cells. I'm sharing with this stupid poofter
Dot looks shocked
Dot - Oh lord, you've been under bad influences since your birth.
Nick - Don't let Colin hear you say that
Dot - He's not like that
Nick - He bloody is!
Dot - He is not like that......You better keep your pants on at night

It was a good episode but I had higher expectations for it. Maybe they tried to fit too much in but it felt rushed with a lot of action taking place offscreen. I guess it wasn't logistical to have location shoots but I do think we should have seen Paul's funeral instead of the dragged out kidnap ordeal.

Very strong message overall with the highlighting of LGBT issues. This is what EastEnders has become known for (highlighting issues) and part of what its creators set out to do. The return of Colin was a real treat and it also saw the return of the multi faceted Dot who does hold strong views, it was completely in character for her. The juxtaposition alongside the hate crime was very cleverly done as well as the involvement of Sonia and Johnny. Suffice to say, cutting ties with Tina will be the best thing Sonia ever does.

Pam has also come to accept Christine in the wake of their tragedy. It has been great to see the community pull together to support them. Lin has been brilliant and that scene in the pub was heart wrenching. The Cokers need a reprieve.

Great scenes also between Grant and Phil, and their respective kids. It was a good to see a line drawn under everything. I would've preferred Courtney to stay in London at uni and pop up now and again. I think we'll see Mark again. Jay will be back. I hope Phil's character development is maintained. He needs to change and if this story hasn't been the catalyst for his redemption then nothing will. Let's see him struggle to be a good dad to his kids. Phil the patriarch not King Phil of Walford. Steve's better than that and it's why Phil has lasted so long.

Hopefully this is the start of a strong Autumn.

Grant must be good in bed for Jane to like him so much.
They never got as far as bed. It was the kitchen worktop.

Finally some emotion from grant
The use of a tear stick on his little piggy eyes did the trick

Sharon should have told him that Grunt was merely the man who made his mother pregnant

This is the episode of acceptance. Dot accepting the gay marriage and Pam is going to accept Christine.

Good casting regarding Mark Jnr. He does have a look of Michelle about him and reminds me of the very first Mark played by David Scarboro.
He should be balding, spotty, a bit thickset with piggy eyes

The scenes where Dot, Sonia & Colin were talking about homosexuality were brilliant because they raised a lot of important issues in society today that get you thinking about your own views on things & can help people to see things in a different light & it also helps people who can relate.

The same can be said with all the other situations in the episode. The way it was written makes you think what you would do in that situation & can help you figure things out in your own life if you can relate to the situation. Instead of thinking oh this is ridiculous & would never happen in real life!
I watch soaps to be entertained
Sharon being the one to tell Mark that Grant is his dad !
Mark and Saron's use of the word Dad was totally inappropriate. Grunt has never been his dad

Coincidentally the last episode (before yesterday) Colin was in was when Sharon's Dad (Den) "died".
The first time Den died

They need character driven drama all the time.

Grant also adds something to the show that was missing imo

I'm not usually negative in all fairness
Any thoughts on EE bringing back that Irish family that was in the show way back when? They could smuggle a lucky leprechaun into Albert Square who might brighten up the show no end!

That's the bit that seemed a little unnecessary (also Colin and Sharon not at least exchanging a couple of words)) and made it feel slightly more contrived. Could easily have said they exchanged occasional cards, phone calls, etc. Still its a themed episode which apparently Eastenders used to do a lot more of in the 90's, etc.

Coincidentally the last episode (before yesterday) Colin was in was when Sharon's Dad (Den) "died".
I was really disappointed that Sharon and Colin didn't get to exchange words too. They both knew each other. When Sharon walked into the Viv and Colin was still there I felt sure they would have a scene together. Particularly as it was actually Angie, Sharon's mum, who was the first person to realize that Colin was gay and accept him in the community. Despite Colin saying it was Dot, this was not the case. Colin and Angie had some nice scenes together and it would have been natural for Colin to ask Sharon how her mum was and for Sharon to inform him that she'd died, and give him the opportunity to say he was sorry to hear that because she was a good friend to him when he first arrived on the square.

Can Daran Little just write all episodes of every soap? Fantastic two episodes.

This is what I was hoping for
