I feel many would agree that there are certain UTTERLY ABYSMAL 'actors' (and I use the term loosely) in our soaps who deserve to be collecting dole fortnightly whilst retraining for different work better suited to their limited skills. A few I have in mind are Maria and Sean from Coro and Pete from Emmerdale. There are others of course. So why are these people still on our screens and getting a regular but undeserved pay cheque??

Please feel free to add other 'actors' to the list.

The worst "acting" in a British soap just has to be Corries Dev.

Ps: just in case you weren't aware - they don't literally have their heads chopped off when discussions of axing is debated.

I look at thread titles and discern - if I see another boring thread covering whatever bores me I do the sensible thing and ignore it. I then click on those I'm interested in.

No need to thank me.

If I could do a confused emoticon it would certainly suffice here. How bizzare. .

Ok Coro street I would say:

Clayton- why just why? I can't stand the character, the bloke is a terrible actor, where did he even come from? was he only brought in to kill Kylie? It's obvious David's gonna kill him anyway so what's the point in wasting time casting a shit actor like him?!

Phelan- just awful. Maybe that's more to do with the character tho...I can't bear the character

All the dog and gun blokes- none of them can act, they just seem like random extras in a pub or something. Callum was ok, Clayton and Macca are terrible! FFS just get rid of them!

Tracy- she's ok in comedy scenes but doesn't convince me much as a total bitch!

Robert- more wooden than the bistro bar!

It's all subjective. I haven't watched Corrie for years but do watch ED and Pete is one of my favourite characters. I'm not going to add anyone to the list as I wouldn't wish losing a job on anyone. I got made redundant years ago after working for the same company for 15 years and it was a horrible time. It wasn't just me, a lot of us did.

The schedules on soaps leaves little time to rehearse, thus little time to improve.
It also probably means less time for re-takes, but suggest soaps might benefit from fewer episodes and you usually find that the opposite happens - The sixth weekly episode of Coronation Street might just be a bridge too far. The other method of pumping up ratings -
high concept story lines - pushes certain actors well outside their range. Not all soap actors are bad, but I think it's fair to say that many of them are limited. The stories you hear about lateness on the set of EastEnders and the amount of garbled lines in live episodes also suggests that professionalism is rather slack. My Dad always says that places like Italia Conti don't really teach youngsters to act, but they do teach them how to project which I suppose is useful enough for the amount of shouting that goes on in Albert Square.

Having said all that, I wouldn't say soap stars payment is undeserved. The heavy schedules might hamper the quality of shows, but they are also gruelling - I wouldn't much fancy Steve McFadden bellowing in my face at 5a.m in the morning.

The OP obviously hasn't read the T&C where it says axing threads are banned.

Sorry Doormouse, badly explained!! I have actually issued you something of an apology on the 'Coronation Street is Dire' thread but it's quite a long post & didn't want to type it all out again here!! Hope that clears up your confusion!!

You must point me in the direction of the directive that explains what constitutes an 'axing thread' - the like of which I have never heard of before. If I am to be banned then I believe it is my right to have my rights read out to me beforehand. Otherwise how can I possibly know when or how I have comitted a crime??

Why is this considered an 'axing thread' ??

It seems also, that the original person to 'accuse' me has now offered an apology. Where does that leave you?

Exactly NDD!

I personally wouldnt put any of the three mentioned into the label.

Maria is shining, Sean is the most onteresting and involved than he has been in a long time and I am non plussed at pete beong labelled. He is not the worst on ED by far!

In my opinion of course.

Nice to see that people still can't tell the difference between the actor and the character

No one we see in soap is getting an undeserved paycheque. Its an appalling thing to say and screams of jealously.

Anyone who turns up to their place of employment and does as they ate directed deserves their renumeration

Yet you still gave a lengthy reply.

Interesting.

We obviously differ in our opinions but that's what debate is all about.

Dullria is so boring, but I think she's an ok actress. Sean is awful and I would glady see the back of both them.

Well that's entirely up to you, of course, it's a free world after all. I think you got my point though. 'Smiley face'.

No, I think maybe you should reflect on it a bit more, you might think more clearly then. However, you will have to excuse me from entering into any more dialogue with you .

I don't think Maria in Corrie deserves to be axed, ok she's a little dull but the storylines she's been served for years have been nothing short of terrible and in all honesty Samia Ghadie is one of their better female actors. And her character is preferable to the likes of Fiz, Michelle, Liz etc.

In general Coronation Street don't have many decent actors, I could count on two hands how many actors can pull off a decent emotional performance.
