II is my theory that the directors of soaps place talentless 'actors' - a prime example is Tracey in Emmerdale - in the show too make the rest of the mediocre cast look good.

No one we see in soap is getting an undeserved paycheque. Its an appalling thing to say and screams of jealously.

Anyone who turns up to their place of employment and does as they ate directed deserves their renumeration
I agree!! ITV are a business not a charity!! If they didn't think one of their actors was worth the money they were paying them then they wouldn't pay it !! End of story!!
It is bordering on arrogance to suggest otherwise!!

I feel many would agree that there are certain UTTERLY ABYSMAL 'actors' (and I use the term loosely) in our soaps who deserve to be collecting dole fortnightly whilst retraining for different work better suited to their limited skills. A few I have in mind are Maria and Sean from Coro and Pete from Emmerdale. There are others of course. So why are these people still on our screens and getting a regular but undeserved pay cheque??

Please feel free to add other 'actors' to the list.
I think both Maria and Sean are fine as background characters. Sean works well with the factory girls, while Maria plays the 'friendly hairdresser' well. There are only problems if and when these characters are taken out of their comfort zones and pushed to the forefront of the show. It just doesn't work.
