the first thing he needs to do is bring back courtney and mark, should never have been allowed to leave.

I don't think it was the case of them being allowed to leave

The actors were most likely on short term contracts and their entrances into the show had nothing to do with SOC anyway

I think people need to calm down and wait. Soaps will do this sometimes. Bring a character in for a few episodes or a few weeks and then write them out. But they wait to see what the reactions and views are towards the characters. Once they get whiff that the character has a hit a chord with viewers, they are always almost written back in the show and the actor is given a full time contract. This happened with Carmel last year.

Haha I said nothing of the sort. I find this forum absolutely hilarious at times but that's slanderous, that

As a woman I'm well aware that I'm of a gender that get murdered, raped and abused by the hundreds every year. That doesn't mean I want a soap to keep driving that fact home to me. Leave it to the documentary makers. Having said that I did enjoy Colin's scenes.

It's not brainwashing Sorcha, its not a cult, it is a belief. But they clearly were her vies for 24hrs till she went to the wedding.

but it was never about dots beliefs it was about making Sonia realise she didnt want to be with Tina. I am sure they could have done that without the Johnny and Colin scene

If Jesus had been alive today he would have been the first person standing up for equal marriage as his message was 'love is love'. Religion has been hijacked by fanatics who aren't following the real teaching of the Bible but their own warped beliefs on what they see as acceptable.

in the words of frozen... let it go

seriously, you need to stop making personal and slanderous comments about forum members that you do not know never mind know what their beliefs are.

Soaps are not there to preach about gay rights or rascism or equality or anything else they are there for entertainment. although you might actually learn. something if you re watch colins scene in the vic.

I do knd of get where you are coming from but and it is a big BUT progression takes time. trying to make women equal happened long before being gay was decriminalised, yet women still face inequality and still have to fight for their rights.

expecting people to change their views overnight just doesn not happen, that is why women are still not equal, it is why rascism still happens..

but as time goes on things improve, peoples mindsets change and those with abhorrant views die of. and a new generation comes to the fore with different beliefs.

You can't change the world in a day. You can't expect everyone to share your view and you most certainly cannot label people as things they are not just because they do not share your view.

gay marriage has only been legal since 2014 that is two years of dots life where she is in her late 70's, I think it is to be expected she would go with what she knows but at lesst her mind was open enough to listen and see beyond what she thought.

Wrong here. EastEnders was only allowed to be made on the condition it educated on social issues. It was part of the BBC Charter agreement which saw it go into production.

Give Martin and Stacey some more focus. They're the only likeable characters in the show these days.

Good post. We are never going to reach some sort of Utopia and that is because there will always be people born evil or at least brought up to feel entitled. We need to stop seeing ourselves as victims or blaming ourselves for being in the wrong place or not doing enough to prevent it. There will always be evil in the world and no amount of education will get through to these people.

That's not to say I count Dot in these numbers, but certainly the people who brainwashed entire generations have a lot to answer for.

I would love Martin and Stacey running The Vic. I think they would work great in there. I think Martin would make the perfect land lord as he is that every day sort of bloke in a much better way than Mick is and having a Slater by his side means there will never be a shortage of drama in the place!

I don't think that is correct in its entirety

The bbc had a dilema to chase audience ratings but at the same time serve the publics interest.

that charter no longer exists anyway but

emphasis was placed on "entertainment first" with social issues interlaced.

but what I trying to say was eastenders is not meant to have public service announcements in the middle of the programme. that are there only to preach at people.

It is funny tho cos, there was a thread a few werks ago where I said almost exactly the same as what Colin did

I agree. what was the point to colins return other than the speech to Johnny telling him what it was like 30yrs ago. it was a bizarre scene but given that people, some on this forum expect everyone to be instantly acceptable. the scene may have been educational. but I dont watch soaps for education.

colins return somehow was there not for dot but to facilitate Sonia's storyline”

I thought it was bizarre that they had Collin in the same camera shot in the Vic with one of the two other current cast members who would have known who he was (Sharon) and they didn't interact at all.

I noticed that. I also wondered how much of Ross Kemp's scenes were shot out of sequence and slotted in. I found it very odd that Grant didn't share any scenes with Ronnie. Across all his stints this year he interacted with the same handful of characters. Considering how big a character Ronnie is, and also her 'hard as nails' ice maiden persona, I expected at least one scene between her and Grant.

I know I thought maybe the point of him being there was so Sharon could go over and say hello but how wrong was I

Well soap lea's own remarks in the past regarding same sex kisses on televisions are questionable as well

I will continue to fight for my beliefs and what I believe in. I do not need the likes of Soap Lea giving me a great big lecture when some of her own past comments have been homophobic So i suppose defending Liam's comments are natural to her. At least i can wake up every morning and know i am not a bigot and I don't defend bigots. Any who sides with her such as Vald are as bad as her.

And you were not there when Liam said those nasty homophobic remarks so why you feel the need to chime in and claim I am being slanderous, is beyond me.

Especially towards new members. One incident was being terribly rude to a member who made a thread about Sam Womack's exit. No one else had an issue but you

You even picked an argument in a thread relating to Louise Plowright's cancer thread because i dared to update people that she had died. No one else had an issue that I had bumped a thread that was about 2 months old but only you had the issue.

With this in mind, where would you guys like SOC to take the show. What characters would you like to have more attention? Would you like new characters? And if so should there be a lot of focus on them? Should the Fox/Hubbards be more prominent? What should be done with the Carters as we know we're losing Lee and Linda will be gone as Kellie will be off maternity leave soon?

I want more concentration on character. Character driven drama that we will care about. I'm not that bothered about huge stunts as long as there are characters I care about and enough going on to truly hold my interest.

What do you guys think?”

I think we should get this thread back on track. This is the OP in case anyone missed it 😏

I apologise for my part in it's derailment Aaron.
