Barrowman said flat out at a recent con, "Moffat doesn't like me" and called him the A word. Direct quote. So, yeah.

The BBC owns the rights to Torchwood.

If Chibnall gets involved it'll rule out any future involvement from Starz, thank God.

Incidentally children's drama is produced by and funded by a different department. The BBC children's department still has a lot of money in the pot and is desperate for hit shows that appeal to the older demographic. The Drama Department is running on fumes financially, but has so many successful shows (many of which can be made on a relatively low budget) they just don't need Torchwood or any new DW spinoff. It's just the way the BBC is structured.

I don't think Barrowman and Chris Eccleston hated each other or anything, they just didn't especially bond.Actually Chris is a lot more of a clown and more easygoing than you'd think. But S1 was such a nightmare all round and Chris had the most pressure on him.
BIB I hope that he isn't going around frightening people dressed up as a clown

The only person who can make Torchwood or stop Torchwood being made is Russell T Davies. He created the show and all its characters and he co-owns it with he BBC.

Moffat has nothing to do with it.

Why doesn't Barrowman direct his comments in the right direction? He must know who owns the show, surely.

RTD is the only person who can make Torchwood (or give permission for someone else to), but as for stopping it, I can very much believe that if the show runner of Doctor who at the time didn't want an old spin off brought back, because they didn't think it fit with their era of who, and didn't want the current version of who to be associated with it, then the BBC would listen rather than potentially risk the main show for the sake of a spin off.

John Barrowman seems to be under the impression that this has indeed happened with Moffat, and whilst I don't particularly know either way as to whether there might be any truth to that, I certainly think that in theory it would be within a showrunner's sphere of influence to do such a thing if they wanted to. In this case, nothing has been said, heard or rumoured about the BBC or RTD showing any interest in bringing it back, so i'm inclined to think that no such idea to do so even exists (beyond Barrowman) to have been mentioned to Moffat in the first place. Then again we don't know what goes on behind closed doors so who knows if it was privately being talked about but had opposition from Moffat?. All I know, as I said, is that I certainly think it would be within his power to block it in theory.

P.s Anyone else find it strange that there never seems to be any comment from RTD on the subject? with all the campaigning from Barrowman, he must at least get asked, and you'd think he'd either publicly state he has an interest in maybe bringing it back one day or state that it's done with.

Exactly.

Moffat isn't stopping the show coming back, Chibnall won't bring it back either. It'll be RTD if he has the right story and the BBC want to do it again.

John Barrowman is on the latest cover of DWM out October 20th, discussing Torchwood's tenth anniversary and trying to get the show back on air ....

I'm really not a fan of John Barrowman at all and actually fear the prospect of him returning to the Dr Who Universe.

They now have an ongoing series of radio dramas on Big Finish. According to something I read some wherever (I know, unhelpful, I skim more than read anything related to Torchwood these days) RTD has a toe in the production in terms of script approval. That's where Torchwood is right now, and actually, not to be unkind, but having seen Barrowman on Arrow recently, he doesn't look much like Jack Harkness any more.

I agree with that last thing I primarily watch The Flash and saw Barrowman on the crossover, I squealed in excitement, but his features aren't as chiselled and sharp as they used to be, but as to be expected with age. It won't be the same seeing him slip back into his old Captain Jack Threads, even though I'd love to see it, I think I'm over him, well not entirely over his charm yet.... still makes me swoon.

But I'd listen to him in an Audio Drama.

Jack's aged looks could be put down to the events in Miracle Day, it must have taken something out of him.
