I thought it was good, not one sob story I don't believe and a light hearted end to the show. Felt quite old school and I think the judges are pretty spot on this year.

I like singers like Muse, Linkin Park, Coldplay, Eminem, Damien Rice, Hozier, Marilyn Manson, The Weeknd, Years & Years, Drake, Imagine Dragons.

I'll just leave it there as the list is getting quite long, but you get my gist.
No offence but I don't think the X Factor has ever had singers like that. It's pretty explicitly a show based around the concept of finding a pop singer to sign to Simon Cowell's record label Syco, which is pretty much as middle-of-the-road pop as it gets.

They're not going to let people like the above progress very far in the competition because then they'd be lumbered with someone they can't do anything for.

I thought tonight's show was poor, but I always find the auditions dip in the middle, they tend to show the best acts at the start and end of the auditions. I do think 5am and the girl group have potential and Gifty was good.

The best acts tonight were of a mediocre standard but some of the joke acts were a bit funny . At least there was no sob story nonsense

The trouble with this show is that the reality feels so heightened that nothing has any impact. We've had the Chicken thing with those guys, then 'the living doll', tonight we had them putting a bad auditionee on the panel, marriage proposals, more 'hilarious' bad auditions and that ridiculous friday night song, it's all too much and nothing feels real. They seem to have gone on a mission to make this series more 'fun' and 'self-parodying' with Simon saying things like: 'I feel like I'm on an X Factor sob-story'. And those ridiculous stings that keep coming up in the ad breaks. I think the production team have really missed what everybody wants from The X Factor.

It's difficult for them because everyone wants something different. Since 2012 they've been trying to give everybody what they want from The X Factor, tying themselves up in knots and making a mess of the show because of it.

Well whatever they are doing is working for me, I'm loving this series.

Exactly, you can't please everyone.

Dare I say I enjoyed it?

I didn't watch a single episode in 2015 and this year, last nights was the first full episode I've tuned in for.

I enjoyed the usual mix of "joke" acts and serious acts, in particular Gifty and 5am! The judging panel works really well, but Louis seemed extra quiet! Mel B's five minute guest appearance was my favourite I don't necessarily like her as a full-time judge, but her brutal guest slots always work well.

I've avoided X Factor for 3 years - but, with the Voice leaving the BBC I thought I might follow this series.

Still can't bring myself to watch the whole show though. I watching a recording and just fast forward to watch the singing bits - for those who can actually sing. I don't watch any background, novelty acts or panel commentary.

The only good singer on last nights show was Gifty. AS for the rest I have no idea what they were doing on there tbh.

All I want to see from the show is some singing talent. I am not the slightest bit interested in joke or comedy acts, or what is going on in their personal life. . Plain and simple.

Same here. I don't see why that's so difficult to grasp.

I think the problem The X Factor has is it tries to be all things to all people. Some like the joke acts and the ridiculousness at the audition stage before things get serious (generally) from Boot Camp onwards. Some prefer the show to have a more formal tone from the off. Some like to know the human side of the contestants and therefoire embrace the background tales whilst others find them unnecessary and vomit inducing.

And The X Factor now appears to be trying to please everyone. Or at least it did. The one thing I'm finding about the show this year, for all it's faults and issues, is it seems more confident in it's self. It sends up the sob stories and the joke acts; it knows how ridiculous everything in but doesn't take itself seriously now.

I think The X Factor just needs to say 'this is what I am, love me or loathe me' rather than trying to keep everyone happy. Maybe then it'll at least keep hold of an audience instead of continuing the drastic year-on-year declines it has been suffering from.

I loved it. It's gone right back to old school X Factor this year which is great. This is light hearted Saturday night ITV fluff we are talking about, it should be silly and feel good.

But the bosses in charge do not get that, the show hasn't found good talent.

isnt that what The Voice is for though?
this is why im hoping to god ITV dont mess with it too much, the scripting on the x factor has just become an embaressment.

Why do you not watch the voice then? You don't have to watch the x factor it's not for everyone

It wasn't we had Gifty and 5am who I absolutely loved by the way! So much potential in that group!

I do watch The Voice, which I much prefer. I hope that ITV are not going to tamper with it too much.

Old school X factor that the public are not tuning in for and have generally moved on from

That was absolutely awful. Full of bad auditions, none of which were even funny. It was so cringy watching how desperate they are for that "Friday Night" song at the end to catch on and for people to find it funny. Sharon hardly says a word anymore and just looks bored and stiff...every time she speaks to act it seems forced. When judging that girl band she even came out with "It was very sunny". I mean, come on!!!!
I'm glad I'm not the only one to think that! I thought it was dreadful and it was full of the bad auditions and only one good one!

The man acting a judge for one song was bordering on plain diabolical and was just pure plain cheese cringe....

Is it just me or have we heard the "Friday night" song before.....could it have been on BGT??

It was featured on The X Factor trailers for this year so may have been then?
