Michael Douglas didn't appear to be promoting anything.

I doubt Kirk's watching. Like most people with good sense!

He's old enough to be her dad, probably couldn't believe his luck!
Yeah, he's the lucky one!

Chat shows have always been about promoting books, films and careers. Certainly going back to the days of Parkinson and Russell Harty.

Jonathan made a great joke, imo, which went unnoticed.

"I believe you got a clutch pedal through the ankle. I assume that wasn't intentional and wasn't a piercing?"

Well I liked it

But difference is the quality of the chat show host. Parkinson was top draw at getting the most out of guests. Down-key, intimate and graceful.

Although I'd watch Graham Norton over Jonathan any day of the week, they are poor versions of what the US do really well at with late night chat/entertainment shows (Late Late Show, Jimmy Fallon etc). Jonathan Ross has seriously gone down hill since joining ITV. Any lack of edge in his style has just made him like wallpaper paste. Plus awfully cringeworthy.

Incorrect. Parkinson was massively overrated as an interviewer. The difference is in the production and format of the programme. So the recent Jon Bishop interviews have been excellent. Not because he is a great interviewer, but because the programme was set up to afford a proper in-depth interview allowing the interviewee to speak.

Parkinson had this luxury and occasionally used it but often failed to do so.

I have to disagree. Parkinson didn't get the best out of Woody Allen, Meg Ryan and on at least one occasion, Mohammed Ali as in my opinion he did not have the ability to turn the direction of the interview. When Ross sees that things are not going well at least he has an attempt to change his approach.

In the case of Meg Ryan Parkinson blamed the guest instead of blaming himself for not doing his homework or being able to access the situation.

When Parkinson was in his heyday in the 70s, there wasn't a celeb culture - the people he interviewed were genuine stars, so they had something interesting to say, and it was a weekly show running over a short run. (I don't think anyone would blame him for that Meg Ryan trainwreck!).

From Wogan's show onwards, (3 x a week at one point) there has been a shortage of people to come on, who are not intent on flogging something. I don't watch Norton, because they are all TV/film actors saying the same things - Ross is a bit more varied. However, they would both benefit from having people on, who have achieved something worthwhile and thus have something interesting to say.

Another good show and better than Norton again this week - for me anyway.

Surprised the series has ended already. Thought it would run till Christmas. Now we don't have another full series back until September 2017.
