I guess that's the point. Ross wasn't back for good so there was no point in it coming out fully yet.. leaving it for another day was a wise move. Who knows, when Ross finally does come back full time maybe Sue Tully will be convinced at last to cameo.

I was really disappointed with it, wish DTC had just left it alone.
Both Peggys death and Grant and Mark father son story were rushed and had very little thought. I loved seeing Grant, he's a bloody brilliant character |

Question - Did Mark know Grant was his dad? I'm sure Sharon told him in the car in his last scene??

Did anything on screen manage to explain the massive coincidence that one character (Mark Jnr) who had never appeared in the show in 20 odd years just happened to turn up just as another character (his long lost father) just happened to be visiting the place he used to live but hasn't visited in the past decade?

Considering it was the biggest story the show had never told up until this year and the potential it had given it was a 21 year secret - I thought it was a huge anti climax. It was right for Grant not to tell Mark and for him to quietly figure it out but I think it proved the story was only ever going to be explosive with Michelle there.

Yet another reason they should have just bit the bullet and cast Linda Henry as Michelle Fowler.

We don't know Mark well enough for it to be worth making it a bigger storyline right now. It can be left for when he inevitably moves back to Walford when he has a barney with his mum or something.

I thought there were a load of really crappy links between Mark & Grant. How he appeared in London with a leather jacket, comments about him being bald and how he gets it from his dad (the one in America), then the chat with Grant about him being hot headed and he must get that from his mum. It just seemed they were pushing the similarities too much.
I wonder how soon Mark will be back, I wonder if he'll go back to America, ask his mum (Michelle) about it, who will lie to try and keep the secret, which will result in an off screen argument, and him moving to Walford to live. That's when I expect something to happen with Courtney and he'll push her away and have to explain. Then who knows what will happen, Michelle coming over to apologise and reconcile, could that be linked with Courtney demanding the truth from Grant? Anyway purely speculation. |

It was terribly rushed and badly written. I'm not sure this story will ever be revisited and the writers just want to draw a line under it.

It was definitely a rush job.

I didn't want this plot to be revealed because, as I said so often, the main players for the reveal just weren't around anymore. Grant and Michelle hadn't been regulars for 17 and 21 years respectively, plus Peggy, Pauline, Arthur and Mark had all died...the impact was always going to be minimal.
Still, DTC can now say he was the one who revealed the longest secret in the show's history. He should also say he was the one who royally effed it up. |

It deserves to be explored further down the track, with a Michelle return ideally to do it justice. A window has been opened for it, if doesn't go anywhere I guess its left to the viewers imagination what the ramifications of the reveal are.

It is unfinished.
What I did like is that someone at last read all the clues instead of having to have it screamed in their face. That was refreshing. Why do reveals have to involve a big screaming match. As much as Grant was delighted to have a son he held back for the lad's sake, and Mark was torn but in the end stayed loyal to his parents. What I didn't like was the number of people who were sticking their oar in and deciding what was best for him. He's an adult and could work that out for himself. But then it wouldn't be EE without Sharon deciding what's best for everyone. |
