The X Factor ratings have been going down for the past few years. When SCD starts the ratings will in all likelihood continue to plummit.
However my own personal feeling is that if the X Factor was axed i would miss it and i think a fair few other people would feel the same way. For the show to improve here are my own suggestions as an X Factor fan 1.Get rid of the themed weeks: I don't see the point of giving a young aspiring singer an old time classic, the contestants in my view need free reign as into what they sing. When the live shows start the one thing i cant stand is some young person singing a song that has been out of date for years. fresh and vibrance is what we need and modern!. 2. Sob Stories: Get rid of the sob stories, my life journey, my life struggle, my gran has one leg, or i am doing this in the memory of! right down to recovering from some nasty condition.I get fed up seeing a contestants mum, dad or gran crying and welling up the moment there little boy or girl starts to sing. Geez we get it you don't have to play it out. Don't get me wrong these stories are traumatic for the people involved and i wouldn't wish it on anyone however for me as a viewer i just want to watch the singing!. 3. Novelty acts: Get rid of the novelty/ joke acts (they serve no purpose to the show). Some one such as that Wagner or even that Chico (remember him), waste of time no point having them on the show. 4. Cut the ad breaks: No need for so many, ads, seriously, what is the point/. We get one performance and then theirs a five minute plus break! Anyhow those are my own suggestions, none of the above will happen but thats what i would like to see. |

Most of your post is just your preferences which is fine, but your last point is ludicrous. How can a commercial TV channel like ITV cut their adverts? Where would they make money?

Why's it ludicrous? There doesn't need to be as many ad breaks as there are, nor do they need to be so long.
Anyway advert length and frequency is the standard for the channel, it is just because X Factor pad the episode with so much filler before and after auditions, which is why as you said it feels like you only get one or two auditions in between each ad break. The pace of the show used to be better a few years back, they used to do use audition montages more frequently so you saw more people, that is what has changed. |

It is ludicrous because Itv is a business and that the how they make their money, it is what makes X Factor profitable and keeps it on air.

Regardless as to the reason why the advert's seem so egregious on this particular programme, they've still got a problem whether it's based on reality or just perception - people turn off and will continue to turn off because of a perceived lack of content. If they want to stop the show dying then they should attempt to address that. |
