CS: Did David cutting Lauren's hair account as Violence?
I downloaded the second friday epsiode via ITV Hub, and it said warning of violence.
And the only thing I could think of was David cutting Lauren's hair, which is hardly violence, yes he shouldnt have done it, but violence no way |

It wasn't violent as such but it was certainly common assault, for which David may or may not have been cautioned depending on the discretion of the Police.

It could actually be classed as assault and battery.
However I think the warning of violence was probably towards David's threat of "I'll slit your throat" |

Lauren pushing Bethany onto the floor would be an act of violence too. I know which one I'd say is justified.
I hope Lauren's accusation against David is disbelieved, the same as Bethany's accusations against Lauren were not believed by the school. |

I thought it was an easy situation to get out of, like he said she changed her mind after I cut it and got upset.

Never mind all this talk of whether it was violence or not (personally I think not .. the announcers are guided by the nanny state police to say the stupidest things when there's absolutely no need). What I'd like to know is .. did the actress playing Lauren decide to go for a shorter haircut anyway and therefore collaborated with the story writers resulting in the scene with her and David alone in the salon?
Usually, when a character has their hair cut for any reason within the storyline, there are close-up shots of somebody else's hair or else the actor wears a wig which can safely be cut. In this case, the character's hair was soaking wet, it had been combed straight back and at one point her head had been jerked back by David actually pulling on it - therefore no wig. My guess is that what we saw was a genuine case of the hair being cut. |

As he had put some of her hair up, I presume that the part he cut was extensions? fitted underneath her real hair.

Shannon Flynn (who plays Lauren) did post pictures a few weeks ago of a shorter haircut and she's just started wearing extensions recently.

To be fair I think it was good they warned us. What happened is very similar to domestic violence. He had locked her in, grabbed her by her hair and then pulled it back and cut it off without her consent. I know domestic violence is in your own home but it can also happen anywhere else and even though they're not in a relationship, it is still very similar. If a recent survivor was to watch that episode and not have been warned, it could have triggered some awful memories and cause a lot of distress. Not just domestic abuse but any abuse they have been through.

I think David had it all worked out well, including the inevitable explanation to the soap police and the nasty little girl (Lauren) got what was coming. Unfortunately I don't think that will put an end to the victimisation behaviour towards Bethany. It would have been better if she'd fought her own battle and got one over on her aggressor herself. |

As others have said, technically speaking, cutting somebody's hair without their consent, is Assault. His locking the door also amounted to false imprisonment.
As what was shown, was technically a crime, they would include a warning. Especially given how many complaints they've been getting recently. |

In my neck of the woods giving legal advice without having a license to practice law is a criminal offence. If you are foolish enough to take it from the cops you do so at your own peril.
Making a general comment as to whether something might be considered a crime in the eyes of the Law is hardly the same thing. Would somebody stating that Clayton broke the Law when he stabbed Kylie be considered dispensing legal advice? How do you know what forum members qualifications or professions are by they way? You know nothing about people in their 'real' life. As it happens, I did study Law when I was younger but stopped before fully qualifying and changed career. Therefore i would never give out advice, as you allege, but i do know more than many people, at least of how the Law stood in the late 80s/early 90s. I also have a number of friends who are Solicitors/Barristers - including in Criminal Law. |

I always believed it to be the finest Black Angus beef money could buy but was infor med recently it was lamb. Looking at it being hacked, it looks more like old wheel barrow tubeless tires. Live and learn.
