Soaps characters financial situations are always very unrealstic, there is no way half the village in Emmerdale could afford to live there on the wages and still go to the cafe and pub everyday. The businesses are also unlikely to flourish in a secluded village.

So looking at a few of these families, what would you estimate them being worth. This is assumption based as I would expect even the tiny cottages in the village, like the ones the Bartons live in to be worth about 200k because of the desirable location. So the families that own the farms and pubs,shops etc.. would be wealthy but are often portrayed as struggling when it's hard to sympathise with them when they are actually better of than the majority of us

The whites
I would guess around 15 - 20 million, chrissie is a multi millionaire in her own right and she seemingly has only has a fraction of the resource her dad has, they was able to by home farm without. They own their business which seem to generate enough disposable income that chrissie was able to buy Robert super cars and Rolex watches. without any saving or thought. I'm guessing home farm estate is also worth around minus of 5 million.

The sharmas
I would guess they are more asset rich than cash rich, they own the factory which despite there tendency to employ the waste of space staff they do is probably worth at least 1-2 million ( the building alone will be worth a lot, excluding the business potential) + hold gate farm ( is that what it's called ) will be worth a fair amount' again probably around the million mark. I think they would be the second richest residents.

Eric pollard
I would estimate the third richest at about 1.5 million, he owns half of the B and B and a barn conversion which I think will be mortgage free.

Robert sugden
I'm putting him a number four. He got given a small amount of shares in home farm estates last year before the affair revelation came about when Lawrence promoted him to director which he then brought back for 500k at the same time he got a pay off a separate entity from Chrissie in their divorce, on top of this after the affair she started berating him about all the cars she had bought for him and the holidays she paid for so he will probably have saved a fortune as he was a kept man for the years he was with her so he's probably worth around the million pound mark.

I think the others who own business and homes will be mortgaged up to their eye balls, and have to house share to afford to live there.

I can't get over James Barton, who arrived in the village with nothing but 6 cows which are apparently suddenly now worth £200K.

James doesnt even own half of Butlers so Moira must be worth three times that much

On the flip-side it's amazing how many characters have lost huge amounts of money over the years:

Rodney was a millionaire but now lives in someone's spare room.
Jimmy lived at Home Farm and is now often pleading poverty, although part-owning the haulage company.
Cain said goodbye to one million pounds when it went up in flames-even though it was made from ill-gotten gains.
Charity has had prosperous times, and then has to scrape the money together for her share of The Woolpack.
David was bled dry by Leyla when they originally split up, but he seems to have bounced back.
Megan was a successful businesswoman when she arrived in Emmerdale but doesn't have her own home now, even though she has her share of the Wedding business.

I think the bulk of the money for Wylie's will be Crackpot Emma's. She sold her father's house and very probably her own.

BIB you sure about that? For a 'multi millionaire' she seemed mighty pleased to receive a cheque for 125,000 from her dear old dad, practically snapped his hand off for it. Is using it to fund her 'adventure park', which surely as a millionaires she could do without his money?

Also very reluctant to fork out for a mansion of her own, perfectly happy to live rent free in her dad's (that's probably how she made her millions, let her dad do all the spending while her money lays untouched in a vault, tight wad)

I'm going from the interview she did when she's first joined where she's mentioned she as a millionaire in her own right and rather ironically used the phrase she is her fathers daughter, who wanted to prove herself and went out and absolutely grafted to earn her own money.

They may have retconned this now though? She obviously has money, she bought Roberts cars and Rolex watch easily enough.

That interview was very early days in Chrissie's time on the show and it was just vague background she had in her mind for the character. Changing that isn't retcon, because it was never canon.

What actually happens on screen tells us more about the characters. What we have seen of Chrissie and what has been confirmed by Lawrence's own words is that she lives off him but runs a mysterious chain of salon's she never attends to but Lawrence strongly implied he gave her the money to set them up (and the way she snapped at the 125,000 grand he offered her I can well believe it)

Chrissie and Robert had quite a lot in common actually when you think about it

When Diane lost the money from woolpack to that conman years ago did she own the full pub? I know chas ended up buying half which I assume was a mortgage and using the money's she conned Carl King out of as a deposit. Also did she ever pay Doug this loan back or will Bernice inherit Diane's share of the B and B , leaving laurel with nothing to inherit even though it was her dad's money. That would be pretty funny.

This makes the most sense to me. From what we've seen on screen, it seems like even if Chrissie has made decent money from her salon chain, it was still initially funded by her father and he must bankroll many aspects of her lifestyle still, as her own profits from the businesses are probably nowhere near enough to be independently living quite as well off as she is.

Don't forget Stella. How many millions?

Surely Liv is up there? She inherited half a million from Gordon (well £250,000 but Aaron passed on his share so it all goes to her) plus there is his assets like house and car which must be worth a few bob. Though they might have been counted into the 500K they didn't get too specific on whether it was half a million plus assets or half a million including assets.


How big of a share did he have in the farm? If it's a small one then Moira must be minted Cain is going to be quids in, hope Moira got a pre nup

The half dozen or so cows that he brought with him from where he was before (bankrupt).
