Whoever is in charge of continuity in Emmerdale needs to be sacked. There was a big deal made in last weeks eps about how Tracy got a Barbie car from her dad for her birthday when she was a child, only for her dad to steal it back off her to give to Vanessa.

Tracy was 27 in Fridays ep. Vanessa is 40 (possibly 41 now) as there was a big deal made about it when she was going out with Kirin. At minimum there is a 13 year difference between the sisters.

So does that mean that Vanessa was given a present of a toy barbie car when she was 17 or 18

Vanessa is 39 (born 1977) but even so a 12 year difference and the Barbie car thing is silly. Would someone really take a toy off a toddler to give to a teenager? Or maybe he did it not thinking how old Vanessa really was or even there was another daughter in between and he got confused. I hate this story - it's contrived rubbish with personalities changing purely to fir the story.

Merely show what an awful dad their father is.

I thought Vanessa turned 40 just before finding out she was pregnant. She made a big thing about being pregnant age 40 and it being her last chance to have a baby etc. That would make her 41 now and with Tracy 27 an age gap of 14 years between the half-sisters.

I guess dramatic licence no longer exists because pedantic nickpickers looking for any faults and errors don't allow it and immediately claim bad writing and plotting heh

I remember her making a big deal of turning 39 and the whole "almost 40" thing everyone else thinks is hilarious but you don't when it's your own 40th looming . I am often wrong these days as turning 40 seemed to make half my brain cease to function so I checked the character page. For a change I was right - doesn't happy often.

Come on, you do not collect Barbies at 17, you put them away in a manky old box at 12. You might get them out again at 37, for nostalgia's sake (or to flog them on ebay), but not at 17.

The whole storyline is a pile of old Balderdash. Whoever greenlit it needs their head examining.

Sorry kywnne - I know you make it your life's mission to play devil's advocate on here - but there's a big difference between "dramatic licence" and treating your audience like they're brainless idiots.

Maybe Vanessa was an adult Barbie collector? People do contunue collecting toys into their adult lives too.

But yeah, most realistically it was probably a contintuety error.

If tracey was say 8 that makes Vanessa 22 when her dad gave her a barbie car.

She did say she was a little old for it when speaking to Tracey.

As I said in the othwr thread that is not a little.

Maybe they are ageing vanessa down? To be fair she could pass for early -mid 30's

On the other hand its a throwaway storyline no one will remember in a weeks time and will never be referenced again, hardly the biggest continuity crime ever committed by Emmerdale is it heh
