I'm interested in how the whole audition process works in terms of numbers/statistics.

Here's my current prediction:

I'm going to guess roughly 100,000 hopefuls audition each year, the vast majority first going to pre-auditions in front of junior producers. Then I'm guessing maybe 5000 (?) get given a yes and then get to perform again in front of more senior producers. Then maybe the senior producers narrow it down further to about 500 to send to see the judges. And then only about 100 end up getting aired.

Of the hundreds who get to see the judges, I'm wondering how many of them are "good" compared to how many joke acts? So, for instance, perhaps there are 300 good and 200 jokers. A lot of people remark how lots of good acts we don't even get to see, but in this case there are probably a lot of joke/funny acts who we also don't get to see.

Any guesses or insights into whether my predictions of the ratios are good estimates? Are there only two pre-audition rounds or are there more than that?

About 30% are "okay/pretty good". Maybe 10% are "good". then 2 to 3% "excellent" and and .5% "pro level AND excellent ".

Those are my estimates, based on some working knowledge.A lot of people "can" sing.

I've worked on it and I would say it's more heavily weighted towards the good singers, a lot of the joke acts get shown but the majority of the good acts don't

I was told that there are four auditions before the first televised one. The people that choose the acts in the four auditions are obviously not that great seeing some of the very poor standard acts that have been aired this series.

Wanna add maybe about 30% of those left are not memorable,10% terrible /deluded, and 10% are "jokers". That leaves about 5% unaccounted for, but I hope it helps with answering your question... I'm much better with vocals than math

As far as who gets air time, that is another matter. as Abigail said, many good acts don't .
