Who makes the Sainsbury Red Freeview box?
Soundbox

This box https://www.dropbox.com/s/3z27oz6v3s...80857.jpg?dl=0 is the sole source of entertainment in a holiday home we are staying at but the remote control is faulty and we can't use it. I was wondering who the actual manufacturer of the box is so I can try a few remote codes on my mobile phone. Thanks for any help.

Looks ancient, the up and down buttons should change the channel, if they don't the box has probably had it. Sure the remotes batteries aren't flat?

If you haven't already, try unplugging it from the mains for a few minutes.

Thanks- yes I tried fresh batteries and even had the remote in bits to see what the problem is. Looked like it had something greasy get inside and damage it. The box has keeps coming up with a large info message that blots out the screen after about 30 seconds about deleting duplicate channels even after a power cycle. Cheap and nasty but what we are stuck with

Is there a label underneath the box? That may give a clue. A lot of these cheap boxes are made by the likes of Vestel. It may have a generic Vestel part number that might help find a remote code.

You are on holiday and worried about TV!

Probably easiest to buy a cheap Freeview box at the local supermarket.

I thought Vestel but none of the stored codes for that brand are responsive. Unfortunately there's just a Sainsbury code underneath - I'd probably have to pop it open to examine further.

I never normally even have time to see the news so a relaxing with a brew and a bit of telly makes a change.

Once again, Winston1 judging people - if people want to watch TV on holiday, that's surely their decision and doesn't really need your sneering.

Turning to the OP's question - you say about trying to use your phone for remote codes - firstly does that actually work ? Have you tried it with the TV that's there for example.

As others have said, Vestel is the most likely producer of this, but the othe codes which *might* be worth checking are Beko, Orion, UMC, Harvard, Bush, Alba, Goodmans etc.

You could be in for a long and tiresome process.

Can you not contact the letting agent / owner and ask them to sort it?

That looks like an Intempo STB to me. Is it made in Italy?

Sadly I am not on hols any more, so cannot check. I did report the faulty remote so hopefully they will get a new box - at least I tried.
