Channel 4! I really wish that the commercial broadcasting companies would get their shit together and let me watch their programmes without ads in return for a small payment.

Why would you pay when you can just record programmes and watch them fifteen minutes after the start, so you can zap through the ads? Doesn't everybody do this?

It seems not. It seems there are still people who sit there and plan their evenings around what's on tv. I once had to watch the X Factor live and almost killed myself.

The X Factor is one of the worst for that. There's a break every ten minutes!

I find the breaks handy in terms of getting snackage & enough alcomohol to make XF bearable

I think I'd have to buy some form of recording device in order to do that. Which I could, but I'm not so fond of GBBO that I'd bother.
My broader point is just that I'd like to be able to pay to remove ads from everywhere. I get that companies need advertising revenue but I'd prefer to give them money and nuke the ads. The other day I tweeted the head of advertising at Facebook on the subject (he basically told me to piss off - apparently ads are part of the Facebook experience, so that's fine then).

Not necessarily. Channel 4 don't just show 1 hour long programmes.

Did you know the X Factor is actually only 15 minutes long. It only seems like 1.5 hours because of the adverts.
Mary shows loyalty to the BBC by staying while Paul follows the money and head to Channel 4.
