Not sure I agree. Come Dine With Me is sometimes very entertaining, and even when it's not, they get a lot of value out of it. It's the perfect slotfiller.
that's what she said..

The end of the BBC in my opinion.
Not wanting to be too dramatic of course...

And it increasingly looks like they will keep all the "talent" while Channel 4 gets a nice tent.
Whoopee. So the 'stars' contracts were also up for renewal. The show's gone to C4, so the Bbc doesn't really have any need to renew contracts.. Unless it's found a new recipie that requires Mel & Sue's innuendo, Hollywood charm and some dried fruit.

And if there's more money for production, contestants may get to work in a village hall mockup, not a tent.

(It's also slightly amusing that the people crying 'betrayal' forget the Bbc poached Mel & Sue from C4 in the first place)

I think you'll find that the marquee is modelled on the marquees that were used at village fêtes, hence the flags/bunting.

Since when ? they worked for C4 in the 90''s then went to ITV then C4 again for a while in 2003, they went to the BBC in 2010 (and have also done work for ITV ) many years after their contracts with C4

The marquee is a quirk of the show if they wanted a studio decked out like a hall they could have done that if they wanted .

I believe Love Productions said it's not just about the money. Other factors like scheduling priority, brand opportunities and auxiliary revenues would have been just as important. They turned down bigger offers from ITV and Netflix, so their actions have proven it's not just the money.
Surely they cannot hope to get better scheduling priorities, brand opportunities etc than they were already getting from BBC One?

That's why I suggested a village hall as an alternative set. Somewhat more convenient I suggest than a lone tent in Wexley Park..

It is also slightly amusing you have that completely wrong.

If anything in the years preceding 'Bake Off ' Mel and Sue were pretty much dead in the water as a duo.

By the way. Mel and Sue's first Tv debut was in several sketches on French and Saunders. If anything c4... well you can guess the next bit

You mean Welford Park - it's just up the road from where I live! The eggs for Bake Off are provided by Beechcroft Farms in Hamstead Norreys and we sell them in our shop! There a bit of advertising for the farm!

I think the revival of Mel and Sue was when Mel or Sue (I dont know which is which) won BBC4s Mastero.

Prior to that the last thing I saw them on was the final days of Channel 4s ill fated RI:SE, presented from a shopping centre.

Aye. They were pretty much doing separate things before Bake Off. The work as a duo had all but shrivelled up.

looking at IMDB, it would be fair to say that they are not joined at the hip as Ant and Dec. I would say that Sue is the more succesful of the two, but Mel is hardly a failure.

Sue worked very well on the Games of Thrones spin-off show on Sky Atlantic recently.

Perhaps as a a cathartic compromise to disappointed Bake Off fan's the BBC could broadcast a special one off of the two chief bosses of LOVE Productions locked in a house with Mary Berry attacking them with various kitchen utensils like a spatula, rolling pin and cookie cutters?!

They had no choice but to use external production companies they were told to, 50% has to be independent 25% from small indies and 25% from others with 50% guaranteed in-house, that 50% in-house guarantee is about to be dropped so 100% of production will be up for grabs with BBC in-house bidding alongside others other than kids, sport , news and religion.

It is not surprising to see a price rise but I do find it interesting but not surprising that now 70% owned by SKY the price is increased by 400% , we all know how Murdoch and SKY hate the BBC so a cynic might say with their anti BBC agenda they were on a win win , the BBC pay the money and a string of headlines in their papers about the BBC wasting our cash when they could have let it go to the non public funded PSB C4, they don't pay and they half say the BBC were right and half moan whilst being able to have a dig at the other PSB C4 who they want to see privatised.
Again, I am not disagreeing, but i do feel the BBc lost it's way a long time ago and forcing them use external production companies was maybe not the best thing to do.

Strange POV. Maybe Digital Spy gives us insight into media news that nowhere else really gives us, but for everything else it's just generic filler which we can be beaten elsewhere. If I want to talk about history, politics, culture, football, music, hell, even WWE, I sure as hell can find better ways to do it than come on here. Why would you assume that people who only post on the main broadcasting forum are only into one thing?
Plenty of other stuff to chat about, books, music, food, loads of stuff. Ash seems to come to life when anything is said against the BBC.

BTW, serious question. Do you find 6 Music 'boring'? Do you find political shows like 'This Week' boring? Do you find some of the documentaries that appear on BBC4 and BBC2 'boring'? Do you find Sherlock, Peaky Blinders, Luther etc boring? Just asking, because I honestly don't see how all of the things I listed would lead me to having a one-dimensional 'BBC' type of attitude to life.
Never listen to 6 music, I did a couple of times, but not now, so I can not say what it is like, i do not watch this week, I hate political shows, because i would be throwing something at the TV.

i like documentaries, depending on what they are mind you, but things about the earth, wildlife, space, technology even if I think that some technology is not needed.
Sherlock I have watched a few times, but never get around to watching anymore, it is on Netflix, so I may watch it on there one day, never heard of peaky blinders, never watched Luther.

i watch very little TV, in fact I do not watch any now, but if i did, I would not stick to one channel.

What this has made me realise is, that the BBC use outside production company's programmes, I thought all BBC programs were theres

They'll appear as slightly used presenters in another exciting* Bbc show?

*exciting to some I guess.

If it was solely about the money they would have sold it to ITV who offered even more. But anyway, so what if it is? C4 have not yet come out and said that they have been sold a pup.
ITV offered more, but wanted the presenters included in the deal, so I heard. That deal was never certain.

Close enough. But do you reckon the majestic presence of a Bbc top-rated show brought you any of the community benefits? It's often claimed that the Bbc's really worth far more than a mere £150/yr. Which if you're one of their producers, seems true.

C4 version though may set challenges like baking everything using Tesco's value eggs & lard. Sponsored by Weight Watchers..

Too much for you to even remotely acknowledge you made a pile of nonsense up I see.

What nonsense?

https://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-r...itish-bake-off

They presented Channel 4’s comedy talk show Light Lunch, which was moved to a primetime slot in 1999 and renamed Late Lunch. In 2015, they were given their own ITV chat show.

Such is broadcasting. And Bbc fanatics. But perhaps the duo realised there were only so many baking related innuendos they could stretch, and bailed before it got to shark jumping.

Bbc didn't poach Mel and Sue from c4

You can remember what you posted can't you?

Why are you also now referring to an ITV chat show commissioned in 2015 due to the success of Mel and Sue on Bake Off on Bbc OnE

Could you tell me what Mel and Sue were making on c4 at the time the Bbc poached them for Bake Off?

Some Japanese producer probably has the format rights to that.. But if they could get Takeshi Kitano involved, might end up a better C4 show.

I'm sure you'll remind me.. But again the 'talent' contracts were also up for renewal. Now it's heading to C4, that's no longer the Bbc's problem.
