This seems a bit hasty - negotiations with the BBC only just end and Channel 4 step in almost the same day !!

IMHO it looks like Love touted a better offer, got one from Channel 4 then demanded the BBC match it.

Channel 4? That's a shocking move.

Netflix was the best option for me, after the BBC of course, great production and ad-free.

Let's just say GBBO won't be getting 15 million viewers on Channel 4 - 5 million if it's lucky. Highly unlikely the judges and hosts will all move to Channel 4.

That's business.

It's good that the BBC no longer has bulging budgets from never ending license fee increases anymore to blow on deals that are commercially viable elsewhere.

They won't if C4 sticks to the winning formula. I doubt either party will change much about what makes the show do successful.

While it's bad news in one way, the BBC will always have the ability to make other non-commercial shows hits. They don't need British Bake Off, but arguably Bake Off needs BBC for the largest amount of exposure and viewers.

The GBBO core audience are not going to be interested in Netflix. This idea is insane.

Would never work on Netflix. Sky would be the best chance of it remaining totally unchanged (i.e. Ad free) but they probably couldn't deliver the audience for the "brand".

It sounds like Love want to really milk the "brand" so I expect it to burn out brightly but quickly over on C4.

Does this show the state of Channel 4 - once the home of bold and imaginitive programming - that they have to poach a program from the BBC ??

Nor will they be interested when the show goes down the drain on Channel 4.

The ratings are going to absolutely plummet. Potentially one of the largest ratings decreases in a one year period?

Not really. Much of C4's programming is both quirky and food orientated. It's the nearest we have to a true PSB other than the BBC.

I expect the ratings will decline to BBC 2 levels, but still great for C4. A lot will hinge on retaining the existing talent, though.

Honestly, there was no great option after the BBC. Bake Off is such a BBC show, it would never work anywhere else, in my opinion.

The BBC could probably produce a fairly decent, simple little baking show of their own in house. Would be great if they could get Berry and Hollywood to stay on for it too!

But I expect that the 4 main players on the current GBBO will soon be swayed when C4 wave some serious cash at them.

Great British Bake Off: Channel 4 to broadcast show as BBC loses rights

http://www.theguardian.com/tv-and-ra...y_to_clipboard

Yes confirmed as channel 4.

I think they will make a much better job of it than ITV or Channel 5 so that's a bit of a relief in a mini way!

How has this been "allowed" to happen? One of their flagship shows and they let it go! Unbelievable.

Channel 4 will ruin the programme. Not least because C4 is controlled by Jay Hunt and she only cares about attracting the lowest common denominator in terms of viewers.

The ratings will certainly fair far better on C4 than on Netflix.

As long as they don't do anything stupid I'm sure the show will continue to be a massive success.

Agreed - and this will have angered the audience so much that they may not even want to move with it.

Be interesting to see if it even affects ratings for the rest of the current series. Probably not but this may just have tainted GBBO "brand" already.

You can say the same about C4 snapping F1 rights after the BBC dropped it.

Saying first show will be in 2017 - but if the BBC has a 12 month "break" clause then it will only be one programme late in 2017 - Xmas special or something.
