Yes we do. It will be a different GBBO because the key elements of GBBO will be absent. That is the point.
"We" !!!???

The point is he willingness "you" have to see it fail without having a clue just how different it will be.

So you have nothing to comment on.
Hmmm. I think somebody accused you of being Ash. Whilst I think there are enough differences for me not to believe that's the case one thing you do share with him is a thinly-veiled attitude towards posters whose opinion differs from your own and this inherent need to 'rightly put people right' because you believe you are right and therefore nobody else should have the right to express an opinion that differs from that.

Summed up brilliantly in that single sentence post.

Nobody can say what the future version will be for (and stop me if I'm being too obvious here) it hasn't aired yet.

Chris Evans reported earlier this week that he had heard Paul Hollywoods "people" had registered a whole raft of new trademarks in his name.

PH is probably very glad it is not on the BBC any more - or his huge paycheck would have to be made public !!

That's not going to go down well on here...

But to be honest, I'm quite pleased. As a fan of the show, I want Bake Off to continue to be a success on Channel 4 and I think having Paul Hollywood on board will contribute greatly to that.

Pretty much what I thought would happen. I guess for one or two posters in particular that'll mean Sue, Mel and Mary are angels and Paul has gone to the dark side.

He's already been branded "Judas" on the other thread.

Some people really do lack a sense of perspective in life.

Paul Hollywood's statement:

"Since I was a kid, baking has been part of my life. The seven series inside the tent have created some great memories. Best of all, I have felt so pleased to experience other people getting the baking bug, just as I did when my dad helped me make my first loaf.

"The Great British Bake Off has brought baking to the nation and we've seen people from all walks of life and backgrounds experience the highs and lows of competition, and more importantly helping each other.

"It's been a huge part of my life in the past few years and I just couldn't turn my back on all that - the bakers themselves, the bakes, the team that makes it, and of course the tent, the bunting, and who could forget… the squirrels.

"So I am delighted that I will be continuing as a judge when Bake Off moves to Channel 4. I want to thank the BBC and Mel and Sue for making my time in the tent great fun and really rewarding."

I'm staying in the tent with the bakers where I belong. I want to thank Mary. I'll miss her but she has made the right decision for her.

I think the BBC hold a lot of cards now. They have 3 of the 4 presenters and don't forget Nadia seems very bankable. They also seem to have public goodwill behind them. They just need to come up with a baking competition format that is sufficiently different to BO to get past the intellectual property ownership issues and they are good to go. So a baking show with a public vote or a league table or such like could be used.

We could end up with two TV baking competitions on our screens.

Yet when he did the American version solo it bombed, he got replaced with Mary and it was more successful.

Odd that Hollywood didn't see/seize this as an opportunity to rehabilitate his slightly dodgy reputation. I imagine he would've ultimately ended up with the same money at the Beeb but had Top Gear, other shows, a GBBO type show reuniting the foursome and all with us thinking him to be an honourable man who stands by his word.

There's a difference between going into a brand new market "cold", and continuing in an already established role.

Judging by the public reaction they could show Mary, Sue and Mel sitting around watching Tellytubbies repeats and cracking jokes, and it would get more viewers than Bake Off on 4.

Which says more about the public than it does Channel 4 or GBBO.

Exactly right!

I suggest they throw caution to the wind, call it Great British Bake Off Rip Off (GBBORO) and get on with it!

Or have a show like Gogglebox with the three ladies watching some baking show on some channel, and commenting...

I wouldn't have done it that way.

Significant that he makes no claim that the programme will be better on Channel 4. Statements like that often have 'I look forward to ......' part but none. He is obviously going to get a lot more money from Channel 4 so three years to get several million pounds in the bank.

So? He's had six (coming up for seven) successful series' in the UK.

But suddenly he'll be a flop because thats what happened in the USA. Aye, OK.

and Mary (also new to the market) got much better ratings and more than one series.
Person in being different to other person after said other person fails shocker.

You miss the point.
He had 7 successful series when accompanied by Mary and Mel & Sue, his attempt at going solo was a flop and he was sacked.

I think Mel and Sue are probably a bigger part of the draw than Paul. They have all the banter with the bakers while they're baking, and I think that's a huge part of the appeal. And the banter with Paul and Mary - basically Mel and Sue are the glue that holds the whole thing together.

He went into an entirely new market and flopped. By signing for C4 he is staying in the same market where the show has been successful for the past 7 years. He's also had success in the UK without any of the other three.

I'm not missing any point at all Mark.
I made a point which you ignored.

Really, he got 15 million viewers on his own did he? which programmes?

I didn't ignore it. I rejected it.

So the benchmark for success is to match the viewers for the most-watched programme on the BBC in a given year?

You rejected the facts because it didn't fit with your version of Paul Hollywood.

which solo programmes did he make with comparable ratings and success then?

You've employed faulty logic - "he failed in the USA, therefore he isn't popular on his own".

There's far too many variables to draw such a conclusion. There is, however, evidence that shows he is popular in the UK.

which solo programmes did he make with comparable ratings and success then?
Who said the ratings and success are "comparable" to Bake Off?

It's possible to have a popular programme without reaching the ratings or "pop culture" status of Bake Off.
