Generally I agree but I've more or less boycotted C4 and C5 because of the hate campaigning they've had going against benefit claimants of any sort over the years. Even without this they have issues as channels. Jay Hunt has destroyed C4 and C5 just seems nasty in general.
If I do watch anything that airs on these channels it tends to be via downloading.. |

So, when Channel 4 axed Big Brother and promised a 'creative renewal' in its place is this what they meant? Poaching a huge rating reality show from the BBC?
I hope Love Productions recover from the big hole they've shot in their foot and carry on making programmes. But it won't ever be for the BBC again. This will go down in the history of UK television as an example of disastrous moves between channels, like when Morecambe and Wise went to ITV. |

Your fire should be aimed at the Tories and their licence fee freeze since 2010. Don't blame the BBC.
It's the BBC's fault it spread its funding to thinly. |

Should we really be surprised that the independent (private) sector is happy to feed off and exploit the advantageous platform that the BBC gave it?
For some time now the BBC has been cajouled/forced by Government to commission more and more of it's programminng from the independent sector with "in house" production becoming something of a dirty word. What has happened with GBBO was entirely predictable and will likley happen again. It's highly improbable that GBBO would have seen the light of day had it not been for the BBC being prepared to take a gamble with it, but where is the incentive for the BBC to keep doing this if it is only going to have its succefull programmes poached by its rivals. The BBC would have been damned for having paid over the odds to retain GBBO and is already being lambasted for "having lost it". Poor Auntie can't win.

We can blame the BBC for over extending themselves launching channel after channel with a HD variant whilst expecting the tax payer to fund them. If the BBC reverts back to BBC1, BBC2 and the radio stations it's will do just fine.
It's the BBC's fault it spread its funding to thinly. I note you are a 'new' account! |

I always assumed the BBC owned GBBO, I'm quite shocked by this, it won't suit having long tedious advert breaks.

From a report drawn up from Jake Kanter, it looks as though the BBC wanted to continue paying for Bake Off as a factual programme whilst Love wanted it to be treated as an entertainment programme - I presume the budget's tend to be higher for entertainment shows?
Both parties are entitled to their approach. In the end, the current holder didn't but a good enough offer on the table whereas another prospective buyer did. Love certainly didn't ignore the BBC; it seems that negotiations were ongoing. One of the other channels made a better offer and they went with that and the media pages were filled with BBC "sources" bemoaning the move and saying how they couldn't understand why the show had moved and they were its natural home Another big problem is the share-holders, if Love got a huge offer from Ch4 they're practically compelled to go for the offer, justifying that the show has a potentially longer-lifer on the BBC would be hard to justify at the Shareholders meeting As for adverts I've always watched the show on German TV with adverts so I don't see the problem |

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Passing this off as "entertainment" is a disgrace.

Nope. You blame the Tories for their cuts and the fact that not all the licence fee goes to the BBC as it should.
