However, TV and media buying agency executives are predicting that on Channel 4 the show is likely to attract an audience significantly lower than BBC1, forecasting about 4 to 5 million.

So many bad decisions by the creative director Jay Hunt, not actually creative more a poacher.

ITV’s director of television, Kevin Lygo, said recently that Channel 4 had paid for “baking powder and a tent” by failing to secure the full current star line-up in its deal to take the show off the BBC.”

I think Channel 4 will be celebrating if they get as many as 4 to 5 million, I expect it to be much lower than that.

They were filmed at the same time as the series so nobody knew what was coming at the time. I imagine that most people will watch as normal but maybe throw things at the screen when Hollywood's on!

If it was most programmes they make or commission, yes. But not one they've paid £75m for. They almost certainly will lose a ton of money in that's the viewers they get. The sheer lunacy of the money they paid - especially without cast iron guarantees about the presenters & judges - has probably turned GBBO from a golden goose to white elephant.

Speaking of which - it has been reported in this thread that C4 are producing 40 hours per year of "The Last Leg", which is a huge increase on previous years.

I gave up watching this show due to the continual, unfunny lefty rants.
However the latest series is now 3 shows in - and the "Last leg" thread in UK TV has vanished.
Presumably nobody is posting while watching.

Overkill is quickest way to get a series cancelled.

The Last Leg is one of my highlights of the week. However that is a subjective opinion.

I enjoy last leg too, especially Adam's rants.

At least a good portion of the increased hours will be due to the nightly shows from the Paralympics.

But my point still stands - during previous series of Last leg the thread on DS was updated all the time - especially during transmissions.

This current series - there is no sign of the Last Leg thread in DS.
Nobody has updated it in a long time.

That is not a good sign

I gave up watching after the pro Remain shows they did post referendum.

Forgetting the move to 4 for a moment.

The year gap will loose a lot of viewers, people have short memories and move on. The momentum will have gone.

I don't care about sport, so on the odd occasion when I catch The Last Leg, the first 20 mins is good and then it tails off into specifics and I get bored. And as always with Channel 4, it's the same guests on their shows over and over on a rotation, which also leads to boredom.

We're still waiting for the shock announcement you promised - the one where the three 'missing' presenters tell us they're crossing over to Channel Four after all...

I think 4 are finding it hard to get presenters or judges for GBBO.

Who wants to be the scapegoat in the tabloids if a 15 million viewer show going down to 3/4 million?

IE a Chris Evans / Top Gear style attack.

I did add - if C4 have asked them.

All that said, as I've asked before and no-one's answered - what loyalty do Mel and Sue have to the BBC? They're hardly giving them tons of other work to do, and they're not locked to the BBC, so if C4 offer millions to them, why wouldn't they jump?

Mel and Sue was who I was talking about before. I said nothing about Mary Berry.

That's not what you said.

You were absolutely certain that the entire presenting and judging team would be on Channel 4 - to the extent that you insulted and belittled anyone who dared suggest they wouldn't be.

And that anyone who has "ruled themselves out" is actually just bluffing and will, actually, be presenting the show. (Or something like that, anyway.)

You didn't say anything of the sort. You specifically said the denials issued by the presenters was a carefully planned publicity stunt and that it was always the intention that they would move over to Channel 4.

You then said anyone who couldn't see this was stupid.

Everyone else knew this was going to come back and bite you on the arse eventually.

Mel and Sue have just signed up with the BBC for a series of 4 shows on Saturday evenings "Let's Dance for Comic Relief". That's a start to the BBC signing them up for other shows.

Love directors get £25 million a year but snub charity.

Comic Relief Bake Off is scrapped as show makers snub BBC charity special ahead of move to Channel 4

BBC bosses have been forced to axe a special Comic Relief version of the Great British Bake Off amid a furious row with the show’s makers .

The corporation wanted to reunite judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry for a final time, along with 12 celebrity contestants, to raise cash for the charity.

But in a snub that will upset the programme’s 15 million viewers, Love Productions – which has controversially taken the show to Channel 4 in a £75million deal – said no.

Instead the company will make a charity version of its own when it switches *channels, with a new star line-up.

So they aren't snubbing charity because they are going to make their own charity version? What a ridiculous non-story. I hate the fact Bake Off is basically gone, but the shitty tabloids twist everything.

Why report an article here that is not a true representation of the facts? Oh - I know - it strengthens your strange obsession with the BBC looking good.

Channel 4's Stand Up To Cancer raised £15 million last year.

Comic Relief raised very nearly £100 million last year.

There is no real conflict between the two charities, they could have made an agreement to do both. Perhaps they are worried that the twelve month restriction might delay the start of their series on Channel 4 if there was a programme on BBC in February(?).

Wow, four programmes. They can retire on that(!)

Lots of people are expecting ALL the 2018 announcements to be made long before the final programme has even had its final airing and dropped off Iplayer. Patience, my pet. It's early days.

Tell me, naysayers - why WOULDN'T they sign?

I don't think we've heard from anyone (except you) who thinks all four presenters are going to the C4 version of GBBO.

And you're trying to strengthen your strange obsession that what Channel 4 did was OK.

They aren't snubbing charity, but they are snubbing Comic Relief and the Mirror (and the Independent, and the Mail) is right - it will annoy viewers. The BBC should stick to the embargo which prevents Channel 4 from airing GBBO until 2018. I think they should also challenge whether, because of contractual conditions, they are legally able to make a special in 2017 for Stand up to Cancer, but then they'd be as petty over charity as Love Productions are being.

If there's time to make their own charity special for 2017, then there's time for them to make the BBC charity special for 2017.

At least we still have the Christmas special to look forward to.

It also seems that The Great British Pottery Throwdown will go ahead because that was filmed before the s**t hit the fan over Bake Off, but it definitely looks like there be no more Great British Sewing Bee - the only programme for the very many hobby dressmakers and sewers.

Clearly you haven't seen my previous posts RE. Channel 4 and Bake Off. So unfortunately, you are simply wrong. On Wednesday night I said that Bake Off hadn't moved - it was finished. You need to check your facts before saying I have an obsession with anything.
