Whilst I agree that the format might not change (ie still in a tent with baking challenges, etc.) there is no doubt that the things you mention will (regardless of whether you think it will or not) affect the ebb and flow of the show. (PP not so much if it's done right.)

That doesn't mean I was suggesting that they'd run this show at 65 minutes, nor was I commenting on the actual running time of a 65 minute show - that's all pretty irrelevant.

Okay. But they don't do it that often. In fact, the have done it 4 times out of 5 weekday nights this week; with whatever was on at 2200. And I can pretty-much guarantee that the programme itself won't have been any longer. As I said, it's just a scheduling work-around.

I wondered what had happened to Traffic Cops. I used to enjoy it too. So it is fifteen minutes less on 5? With 5, you get less content in comparison with the Beeb? Not an improvement for viewers is it.

Love Production and Ch4's greed have resulted in the loss of a show I enjoyed. Of course I am angry about it. It doesn't help when you have someone who attempts to imply that Bake Off on 4 will be 'business as usual' when it blatantly won't be.

It doesn't help your "case" by hijacking a thread every single night to simply repeat the same thing over and over and attempt to bludgeon people into submission. All that happens is decent debate goes out the window as people simply give up and no longer bother. As I said, in your strange world you probably see that as some sort of victory - it's actually the opposite.

I'll also say that if you believe this show / the BBC / the licence fee etc etc needs little old you to constantly stand up for it, then there mustn't be much there to begin with.

This thread is getting beyond ridiculous. It's a cooking contest and sometimes commercial channels can do a better job than the beeb. I prefer the warmth of Masterchef Australia to the beeb version with the shouty grocer. I'm sure Alan Carr can make jokes about master bakers

I have apologised for being drawn into debating points with Ash, it is pointless because even though I have put forward throroughly researched views it isn't accepted and I end up having a debate that as others pointed out destroy the thread.

Ash doesn't know, no one knows how the GBBO will be on Ch4 and it is best to leave it until then otherwise you will just end up banging your head against a wall and getting very frustrated.

With respect, there is a lot that we do know even before it airs...and that makes it a much less attractive proposition for millions in comparison to the hugely popular BBC version. The few people I have spoken to (and I know it's anecdotal and can't be proven) are refusing to follow it to 4. Common reasons include the fact that they don't like how 4 and Love have behaved and it 'won't be the same' on 4. People have a real sense of what is right and what is wrong. Many are very loyal to the BBC too.

Isn't it funny - that's funny in its most literal sense - how the "few people you have spoken to" all have exactly the same extreme views as you when, as it happens, the general population don't really care - and that includes any of the ones I've spoken to who watch and like the programme. It really is just a TV programme.

I personally have no interest in the programme. However, my OH despises Sue Perkins and so couldn't ever watch the BBC version. There's one person quite glad of the change in personnel and looking forward very much to the much-improved Channel 4 version.

Mel, Sue and Mary will no longer be on Bake Off. This will have a negative impact on the format.
Ads are an obvious negative re: pace, for example.
Product placement will impact negatively on the show from an editorial point of view.

These are all facts. You can attempt to 'do a Brexit' on it, but facts they are.

There is always quality content on the BBC every day.

Please give up, you, your friends, no one knows how the show will be. It may be worse but that's how the cookie crumbles. The BBC have lost it and the circumstances debated endlessly, no more can be gained. The time to discuss the GBBO under CH4 is when we know the presenters and the shape of the show although Paul Hollywood has confirmed the format won't change, there will still be a tent, there will still be the same mix of tests and the same make up of contestants.

You are entrenched in your views with everything regarding the BBC so you will always have a bias towards any show the BBC shows or in this case loses. I will add that yes the BBC does produce good content but there is a world of great content on other FTA channels, Sky, Netflix and Amazon. The Crown is a great example of something th BBC may have shown in the past but there is no way they could have spent £100 million that Netflix have budgeted and covered the story in so much depth so it is better and also for the sake of this thread it is time to come back when there really is something to discuss.

The main problem with Bake off will not be the first series or two.

The programme will try to emulate the BBC version as much as possible.

The problem will come when Jay Hunt has left, and new Executives are left with a huge white elephant they are stcuk with.
It is then you will get the programme "mucked about with" and pointless changes made.

Indeed. It will be fully commercialised and Channel 4d. It will lose all the things viewers enjoy about it. It will lose it's charm, humour and 'BBC feel'. Love have totally shot themselves in the foot never-mind mugging off licence fee payers.
