I definitely think he's a lot less popular than Berry but because of GBBO the press have been more lenient with him than would otherwise have been the case, even when he briefly ran off with his American Co-presenter. Not sure they'll be so kind in future.
My wife and I watched GBBO for the first time yesterday, greatly enjoyed it but we both commented that it would have made no difference had Hollywood not been there, his contribution to the programme was minimal, Mary Berry is the star.

Announcement tonight at 8 pm? Of GBBO BBC replacement?

There was a teaser pre GBBO tonight with four boxes to be opened?
It was a tribute- thank you- send off, nice and classy.

Just a compilation of short clips from past series and a Goodbye and Thank You at the end of the last Bake Off. Sad to see if finish.

Last Bake Off on the BBC.

You might have missed the announcement, but the programme is continuing on Channel 4

No, " The Programme " as we know it doesn't continue on C4.

C4 purchased the format of this show, but with 3/4 presenters / judges gone, and adverts added, and new presenters, the programme as we know it has ended.

Even the format which evolved with BBC help and nurturing will be lost forever and a show with the GBBO name in a tent continue. But due to greed and a contempt for viewers the owners of the format wanted their Thirty pieces of silver.

i'm not getting into this again because it's as pointless as arguing with people who claim the Earth is flat.

It's an undeniable fact that, ceteris paribus, the programme will be on Channel 4, no matter what anyone says to the contrary.

Indeed, but it'll be like the Sugababes, where the lineup has changed so much that it's no longer recognisable and all that's left is the name and nothing else. That's what is happening here.

I think you'll find you started it all the arguments off again with your Christmas Eve post, #2192, that kicked the thread back into life. Don't blame me.

I posted a piece of news that was relevant to the discussion.

And I was not blaming you. Mind you I can see where this could be going:

I replied to someone who claimed the last Bake Off had just aired. I thought perhaps they'd missed the announcement about it moving to Channel 4

There's little that can be added to that masterful reply.

I love the Sugababes comparison - here is my contribution.
