Bacon

Can't beat a butty!
Yes yes yes, chip butty. When I buy chips from the chippy I always buy a couple of bread rolls too.

Tartiflette

Sliced potatoes layered with bacon bits topped with Reblochon cheese, and baked.

(Should have onion in there too, but sticking to the three ingredient rule.)

1 Onion finely chopped, chopped slice of bacon, brown them off and then add a load of kale and stir fry till wilted then eat.

If you want to cheat and add a 4th item, sling a poached egg on top.

The three ingredients I always make sure I have in the cupboard for emergencies are a tin of tuna, tin of chopped tomatoes, few handfuls of pasta.
Can you describe the type of emergency you have in mind that ensures you always have tuna, tomatoes and pasta to hand?
😱

Rice, mixed frozen veg and an egg gives you a very cheap fried rice meal.

Dried noodles, mixed frozen veg and whatever sauce you have to hand gives cheap noodle meal and better than a Pot Noodle.

The above two can be pimped up with whatever leftovers you can find the the fridge.
I'd go for tin of tuna, carton of pasata (thicker than tinned tomatoes) and pasta. Cook tuna and pasata together (hopefully seasoning and handful of dry herbs allowed). Cook pasta. In 20 minutes you have tuna pasta.

Yorkshire Puddings
Sausages
Gravy
Toad in the hole!

But also a vote for pasta, tomatoes and tuna. Although I can beat Smudge's version by nuking it. So pasta in the microwave with boiling water, cling film over the top. Nuke for 12mins, then add tuna & tomato pasata/chunks in another bowl and nuke for another 2mins. Ready to eat in 15mins with my 850w microwave.

Can also do a rice version, but in that case I usually nuke the rice & tomatoes together. 1 mug rice to 1 tin toms + 1 mug water works for me.

As for why emergencies.. Pasta & rice last ages, and tinned tomatoes & tuna are handy for all sorts of quick meals.. plus frequently seem to be on offer.

And always make sure the bread has a generous amount of butter with the chips being fairly hot so the butter begins to melt.

For me a "food emergency" is when I'm hungry but can't be bothered or to busy to go shopping. If you have a few tins of tuna, tomatoes and a bag of pasta in the house then you'll never starve.

eggs on marmite toast; scrambled or poached. A quick & easy dinner, if you want to omit the marmite, you can have tomatoes or cheese or onions instead.

That sounds really nice, I might give it a try.

It is great comfort food but very calorific! Slice the Reblochon across horizontally so you have two discs, cut them into wedges and arrange on the top of the dish. Do not remove the rind, as it turns into delicious crispy shards.

Just add bread. And my 'I'm hungry! Now!' essential, a plumber's blowtorch. Tuna & cheese melt, cheese & tomato.. no problem <click> <rooaaar> <beep beep beep*> and then nom.

If you want to get fancy, take a few seconds to singe the toast first. Takes a little bit of practice to judge time/distance given it's a hot flame.. but fast food!

*for when you forgot to turn off the smoke alarm before incinerating your toastie..

Thought I'd start a thread for those fed up with fancy recipes, costly ingredients and lots of faff making something.

For anyone on a budget, students away from home for the first time, or just anyone who wants an idea for something simple, cheap and delicious.

My simple, cheap and delicious is jacket potato, butter, cheese.

Enjoy.

Agree with this, wish my kids would eat it but they turn up their nose at it. Don't know their born

Cheese
Baked beans
Bread
And if allowed, a smear of marmite on the toast
Best idea so far, as hub likes Marmite. Food would be for him, but not for me, as I have to be careful what I eat. Thanks

I would as I don't like tuna and pasta, nor anything fishy, but the odd tom is fine

My favourite meal is Cumberland pie from Morrisons in Taunton, as theirs has reasonable chunks of sausage in the mix, and tastes so good The hospital made me some delicious Tikka Masala using vegetables and hot spices, so hot my ears nearly blew off, but it was gorgeous, and closest I can get comes from a food producer but they add rice which I have to mix in well as I can't always manage rice.

Emergency food for me would be a banana sandwich

See if you can buy a floury potato, and when it's baked add the extras they like, and I think they'll enjoy it, as not all potatoes are suitable for baking, and not even baking types, as they don't taste that nice.

We used to live on baked pots, but I went off the types of potatoes one could get, and now don't bake them at all. But did once find a floury type and it was gorgeous when baked, but next time we went to get more of them, they didn't have any, nor were on their list to get.

Tonight it's going to be 3 (cheating) ingredients:
Haloumi - fried in olive oil with garlic and herbs until it's got a nice brown crust
pasta
pesto sauce (the cheat as it's a mixture of ingredients)

Egg fried rice with mushroom.

Beat 2 eggs whilst you cook some rice. Chop some mushrooms and microwave for about one and a half to two minutes.

Fry the beaten eggs till set then turn and do the other side. When cooked and fully set put on a plate and cut into smaller pieces.

Add the cooked rice to a wok or deep pan, drain the mushrooms and add them plus the egg pieces.

Stir constantly over a high heat for a few mins adding any herbs and a dash of soy sauce before serving.

A more decadent tastier version of this is to sauté the mushrooms in butter.

(Butter, oils, herbs and spices all allowed to be freely included and not counted as one of the three main ingredients.)

Hobo Hamburgers

Tear off squares of tinfoil.

Put a seasoned hamburger patty*, sliced onions, potatoes, salt and pepper on each one.

Fold the sides in and roll the edges on the top together.

Bake for 45 minutes at 350 and your whole meal is there.

You can add pretty much whatever you like to the foil packets, mushrooms, peppers, etc.

*ground meat of your choice, ground poultry meat works well
I saw this post the other day and tried them tonight. Very nice! Went with considerably more than the 3 ingredients in the end.

For the patty I had ground (minced) pork and beef, chopped bell pepper, mixed veg, grated cheese, cracker crumbs, 1 egg, Worcestershire sauce and cayenne pepper. Topped it off with sliced onion, carrot, potatoes and a rasher of bacon.

Also had an extra jacket potato done in the microwave on the side and squirted a bit of HP sauce over everything once cooked.

Very similar to the recipe here - http://www.pauladeen.com/hobo-hamburgers which I found after seeing your post.
