I pay more than a fiver for blu rays. Some people spend their hard earned money on cigarettes and alcohol. I don't smoke or drink alcohol and I spend mine on blu rays, books and bears. Not all of it - just a treat every pay day.

Depends. If its a box set than yes. At least that lasts longer than a fiver on booze and cigs!

Why is everyone going on about booze and fags Surely the point is that a fiver is a significant amount of money to spend to watch a film once. You would imagine that Ian like everyone else in the world would have Netflix or Amazon Prime or Sky even

No surprise there, Eastenders is a couple of decades behind real life.

Brand new films are still over £10 aren't they? Some people do still buy them.

£5 for a DVD you might not see again is a bit of a waste

You could say the same about Netflix or Sky. They still cost money and people are paying to watch something once.

New DVD's can be over £10 in supermarkets. Old DVD's you can get for 10p on ebay/Amazon.

The only film I paid full price in the past year was probably Star Wars 7 and I have just purchased a box set for £20.00 for a series I can now watch again and again.

Netflix and Amazon are like paying a monthly sum to join a library where you have constant and unlimited access to films, programmes etc. Obviously SKY is a bit different but everyone has a Digital TV service of some kind nowadays, well everyone with a TV and Freeview even has film channels.

As for Ian, the film was a very poor one according to himself and whatever individuals prefer on here I find it hard to believe Ian wouldn't have SKY / Netflix or something like that and I can't imagine many people nowadays paying a fiver for a film you readily admit is a throw away one. You can even get DVDs for free in the library which would make more sense.

I think the reality is that EE doesn't want to mention something like Netflix or Amazon or SKY or Freeview even because it's like advertising and so as ever comes across as old fashioned and out of touch.

Not really. When people go to the cinema it's over ten pounds each and you only get to see the film once.

So the cinema is a much bigger waste of money.

Whenever my mum and dad go to the supermarket they come back with a new dvd.

They sometimes pay a fiver or even more. And they still sell DVDs in HMV too.

I understood it that he rented it for a fiver .. like you would from Blockbuster back in the day.

Eastenders characters are only just starting to get smartphones so it's definitely way behind the times in terms of real life.

The films on Netflix are rubbish! Ditto Sky unless you pay for Box Office - isn't that around £5?

I bought a blu ray 2 weeks ago. So far I've watched it 4 times, I bought the blu ray player a few months ago when my DVD player died on me - I have several shelves full of DVDs and of course I can watch them on the blu ray player. I don't want Netflix or whatever, I prefer to have hard copies of films that I like. I'm the same with music - I prefer CDs to downloading.
