What happened to the place Sylvie and Babe were sharing when they first came into the show?”
It is possible if the Carer dedicates their entire life to it (ie they don't have a job aside from that) and they have help in the form of friends or relatives visiting so they can take a break to recharge their own batteries.
My Granddad did it with my Grandmother (Vascular DemeNtia) for 3 years until her death. My Godfather did it with my GodMother (Alzheimers) for 7 years until her death. But they were both retired so had the time and we're physically and mentally strong themselves so had the ability. They also had the love and want to keep their wives with them, and the intelligence and sense to know how hard it would be.
They did also accept help, both from family members (we went over every Saturday and a couple of evenings when My Gran was sick, GrandDad would go out with Dad, my Brother and i for a break whilst my Mum stayed with her) and professionals.
If they got a proper rota sorted out, they could cope. There are enough of them after all. But the fact is that none of them, except Tina and maybe Lee a little bit, actually want Sylvie around at all and it is a fantasy with Tina. She likes the idea of caring for her Mum, she thinks it is what she should do, she likes the odd times Sylvie is good company, but she can't handle the practicalities. So she pushes it all onto Sonia.
I'm amazed Sonia has coped this long - it is impossible for anybody to do alone with a full time job, let alone one as pressured as Nursing. For Tina to have been "grabbed for a drink" after her shift when she knew Sonia had been alone with her all day when she was meant to be sleeping before going back to work is probably the most selfish thing i have ever seen in a Soap.
Yep, they've managed to make me feel sorry for Sonia!
