Older Android spec tablets compared to iPad Air 1
I have an iPad Air 1 for my job which I can only occasionally take home and I'm really happy with the performance given it's age but they're a bit too pricey for me to buy a used one for myself.
So I was wondering which Android tablets would be of similar performance and spec - the iPad rarely if ever stutteres regardless of which apps or games I'm using and that's the sort of performance I'm looking at in an Android tablet. I'm not interested in the latest models and neither does it even have to be from this year. I'm trying to keep costs low so I'd rather get a used one and will likely end up buying privately. I'd rather a large-ish screen and upgradeable memory is *essential*. Front camera as well as rear if possible too. Any suggestions? |

The CPU specs are only half the thing
Air 1 has a really good screen, not just the resolution at 1536 x 2048 pixels but the overall quality. Also the aspect ratio (screen shape) is not typical for Android, do you like that shape or the longer type of screen? ------------------ Not cheap to find an Android tablet with equivalence. But maybe if you go for an 8" screen with full HD (1920x1200) it'll be about the same Many Android tablets with 9.7" screen have a very low resolution screen. |

What's your actual budget?
In my experience Android tablets just can't compete with the iPads. I love Android as an OS and still have an Android phone with no plans of moving away from it as a mobile phone platform but I just don't think it works as well on tablet so I moved back to an iPad last year, Mini 2 which is now a 3 yr model, and it's still going strong even on iOS 10. Runs whatever I throw at it, no slowdown and no coming to it after a week or so to find the battery has died, which always happened on my Android tabs. You gets what you pays for, I suppose... |

Certainly Samsung compete with Apple very well, but they are very similar in price at the high end.
Galaxy Tab S2 can be had 2nd hand for about £200, is that more than the OP had in mind? We will never know it seems! |
