I was getting frustrated with my M4 Aqua as it only has 4GB of free internal storage.
I was aware that Sony were releasing Marshmallow for my phone but I hadn't received a download notification. A forum post suggested installing Xperia Companion on the laptop and checking for new updates that way. I did that and found that Marshmallow was available. Downloaded via USB connection between laptop and phone. I was then able to put apps back on the phone that I had to previously remove to free up storage. There was still only 500k left so, I need to go further.
Disappointingly, Sony have not enabled Marshmallow adoptive storage on this model of phone, however the link below shows how to set it up using ADB Tools:

I followed the instructions and now have 50% of my 16GB SD card behaving as internal memory. I have installed further apps that require more than the originally available storage and all is working fine. You can still see the memory allocation breakdown in settings.
An amazing mod - it has transformed my phone from one that was perfect in most regards (but with a serious flaw), to a perfect one!
