We have very different ideas on the show, so it's inevitable but no more palatable

I guess Kyle will have to find some where else to skulk around and randomly find out secrets. Not fussed, no point keeping characters who don't offer much.

The thing is, why should we as the audience care about new cast members being brought in under SOC when all the signs point to them being axed as soon as HIS successor comes in?
EE now has a huge problem of creating new characters who will last the distance. The new, underdeveloped characters are always the first to go. It's so predictable and so disheartening to see characters brought in, neglected, and then axed, as the EPs and writers time and time again fall back on the old reliables of the cast to make up for the inconsistent, unimaginative writing and storylining. What can be done? It seems like a huge problem to me. Which characters introduced under Kirkwood, Newman and DTC feel like they'll last the distance on this show? It must be just a small handful. I know that people will go 'Who cares, it's just Kyle, he was never used properly, he's deadwood', just as they did for the Cokers and for Lee. But it's an issue that's bigger than these characters; it's what their exits represent. I'm genuinely feeling disheartened about this conveyor belt approach to new characters. |

But (and correct me if I'm wrong) didn't Matthew Robinson axe a huge chunk of characters when he took over and replaced them with characters like Steve, Mel and The Slaters who were/and still are huge characters. The show feels very stale at the minute and needs a few new exciting faces to counter the older familiar characters.

He introduced Mel, Jamie, Lisa, Steve and Billy. The Slaters were introduced by John Yorke. |

Is it really the character? Yes some actors might fail to break out of the screen, but in most cases they can only deliver with what's in the script. It comes down to the writers. Lots of 'front of house' cuts but EE really needs a new broom in the storylining dept now.
Julia and Tony had to produce an initial 3 year plan. It feels more like characters are being scripted with a 3 week plan today. |

Stupid move, Kyle is a decent character. Why axe him? Maybe SOC isn't as fond of the Slaters as we might have thought. Like Lee, this is another character who should've been kept on.
As each week passes, he's becoming the new Matthew Robinson. That may not be a massively terrible thing as MR's era was very good (Steve Owen/Matthew Rose/Saskia Duncan was brilliant). Creatively if he's more like Robinson and less like Kirkwood, Harwood, Newman or not prone to DTC's inconsistency, that's fine with me. Babe and Shakil need to be cut asap. Tina might become more interesting with no Sonia around. |

IMO, the only successful new character introduced by DTC was Kush. |

Not surprised at all. Tbh he was really boring which was a shame given they spent so long creating the character. The blame for this lays with DTC. I think SOC is right to cut characters he feels there is nothing he can work with.

I'm on the fence.
Kyle could have done so much more. But yeah, Shakil needs to be next. |

He axed 9 characters in one go.
He introduced Mel, Jamie, Lisa, Steve and Billy. The Slaters were introduced by John Yorke. I liked her friendship with Lisa.
